I got a Maxtor 160 gig the other week and was only using it for storage. I made a 40gb partition and copied the OS to it using th eMaxblast software, my question is how to move the boot sector so it will boot off that drive, I changed the letter using partition magics drive mapper but my bios was like ROAR i dont care.

Any help?

I think this can be fixed with the "fixmbr" command in the Windows Recovery Console thing on your Windows CD (2K or XP, in 9x/ME you use "fdisk /mbr" or something). I don't remember if that is the right command, but I think that is what you are looking for. Just be sure NOT to go into the automated recovery thing, but only recovery console, to type in "fixmbr", wait until it is done, and then CTRL+ALT+DEL or rebooting. Hopefully you didn't come with Windows preinstalled or something incase system came from a manufactuer that doesn't include the CDs with their systems.

There are probably some other easier to use programs to write the Master Boot Records to the drive, but I don't know of any off the top of my head. Maybe the MaxBlast software has that somewhere? Maybe someone else would know. Good luck.

Edit: Yay! [H]Lite :D

Thanks, and naw its not a preinstall, just want my OS cuz I got win2k for the buyer
