Hello,

I'm having a problem with a budget system I put together a couple of months ago. Components as folows:

Machspeed msnv-939 (aka Biostar NF4-a9a v1.2) nforce 4 standard
X23800 (s939) stock clocked
Arctic Cooling Pro 64
BFG 8600gt stock settings
WD 500GB sata drive
LG 18x sata burner
Crucial rendition 1gb 400mhz DDR
Thermaltake TRU-430w psu

System was working fine until a short while ago. Decided to upgrade the hdd to the 500GB sata drive, and think there may have been some issue with the Nvidia chipset drivers. Formatted drive and installed XP, everything appeared to work fine, and then I tried installing drivers etc. Started getting check_machine_exception errors shortly after boot up, and now it will POST (albeit not consistently) but often shuts down before getting to the Windows splash screen or even before reading from the DVD drive to reformat again.

I realize the motherboard is not high end, but I can't figure out what is going on. I've run memtest and prime95 just after reformatting, and it worked. Don't think it is grounding out somewhere, but i'll check again.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

so u can`t get into windows? it happened just when u install your new HD? that´s a tough one!
Well put everything at default speed, update the BIOS, make sure the heatsink in properly placed, set your memory timings high, make sure the RAM is getting the correct voltage. and try using Memtest and Prime95 again

System now hangs in mid POST, displaying the memory timings and then shutting down.

Sometimes, system will power up, with fans and HDD spinning up, but no video signal is displayed.

I've tried clearing the CMOS, no affect. There is no BIOS update available.

Something tells me this board is dead...
