Hey I was wondering the best bookshelf speakers for bass for around $200 (do I need to go to a 8inch woofer or is 6.5" enough, I have a very small room, what sort of amp would you rec. I have heard those sonic tamps take away bass, I am running it through my computer with xfi)

If you are willing to go DIY, PartsExpress Dayton BR-1 will probably best anything in the price range (It's $140 for unshielded, $150 for shielded). T-Amp would be too weak to drive them, though.

So you guys are saying that those bookshelf speakers would pack pretty good bass for my small room? anyone have experience with the dayton subs (8" or 10"), how easy would it be to hook that up with 2 bookshelves to my comp, would I full on need to buy a good amp or what, how easy would it be to get all 3 in sync with eachother, or with my 200 budget would it not be worth it to go with a sub? thanks

what kind of bass are you looking for? what are you listening to? music? movies?

what size is your room - dimensions?

I would look into a pair of floorstanders if you're listening to music in stereo. It'll be loud and will go low enough and eliminates the need for a sub.

mostly alt. rock music but nothing other than music, room is about 11 by 10, no room for floorstanders, anyone have an opinion about the partsexpress dayton BR-1's?

If you're interested, I will sell you my Ed Frias Enterprises T-22s (EFE T-22s) for $500 + shipping...I know it's above your budget, but considering that these compete in the retail $3-5000 domain it should be fair. Look at audioreview for reviews of them, I have the ones with the upgraded carbon fiber woofers, let me know at ymalhance AT gmail.com (put together with @ instead of AT).

funny guy, lol, dude he wanted 200 bucks a pair not 500 AND shipping haha. Even though it might or might not be worth it... that's like over 150% his budget!

Bookshelf's can pack some decent mid-bass depending on the enclosure and the woofer at hand. But you shoudl really be getting a dedicated subwoofer or tower speakers if you want some of the lower frequencies.

Yeah, bookshelves that really pack a whallop in mid to lower frequencies are easily 200% more than you are willing to spend.

I suggest you go with a sub if you want the lower frequencies.

It's worth a shot, I'm just tired of people saying "I want the absolute awesomest speakers to rawk my world RAWWWWWR! Budget of $75." Might as well give people the chance. :p
