Bonus Amber WUs

To avoid any further thread crapping, I'm bringing the discussion of these WU's here. On my Athlon XP's, here's what I'm seeing so far.

4528 152PPD
4530 180PPD
4531 135PPD
4532 135PPD
4533 120PPD
4534 195PPD
4535 195PPD
4536 160PPD
4537 210PPD
4538 210PPD
4539 195PPD
4540 170PPD
4541 150PPD on one, 220 on the other
4545 130PPD

These are 1900+'s running at stock speed (1.6GHz). The clients are set for -advmethods, bigpacets=yes, and have either 1GB or 512MB RAM.


 
At APOLLO's request, I also set my E6400 to work a couple of these, temporarily. Both clients grabbed a 4538 and are currently running at about 250PPD.

So clearly without SSE, these things do much better on AMDs.
 
I've got a question: I'm running WU 4432 (R390, C19, GO)` on a stock P4 2.60 GHz with WinXP w/SP3 according to FAHmon 2.3.2b my AVG = 32m 19s and my CUR = 32m 19s, does this sound anywhere near in the ball park or am I doin' something off of the wall to cause it to crunch at the speed of a handicapp

I haven't done a "single core" F@H project in a many a' moon, I've been doin SMP's, both WinSMP and LinSMP. :)

Edit: Yeah it's a deuce and a quarter (225 pernts) so I guess it qualifies for the "Bonus WU" thread. (now if it's a Amber WU or not, I have no ideer) :rolleyes:

 
Do you know for sure that those are the only "bonus" unit's? Right now I have a 4539 running on my 2g diskless boxen, and it's completing a frame every 9 minutes. It's only good for 85 points though, which leads me to believe it's not a bonus point unit....

No, the 4432 isn't a bonus Amber. Just to clarify, the bonus ambers are 45xx. It looks like you have a GROMACS jws, you can look work units up here:

And an update. The E6400 is getting 290PPD and 190PPD on the two 4538's. Something must be off, I would expect the difference between a Palomino and a Conroe to be a bit more.

I've answered my own question...it's an Amber and at the rate it's going (131ppd) it clearly is a bonus unit sooooo........ugh....too many tamales last night:)

The graphical client isn't getting them, I'm going to have to switch the laptop over.



 
Your going to get better results with the console client anyhow. Be sure to set the -advmethods flag in the advanced options when you configure the client..

 
So is there any word on how much longer these will be around? I can get used to them. :D


 
Just fyi... I'm getting them with small packets and 128MB memory set. Looks like the only thing you need is to have the -advmethods flag.

I expect the project to run at least to the end of summer. Rarely is a new project terminated in a very short period of time except for the QMD units, but there were political reasons in that case, IIRC.

Hey thanks alan2308, you have no idea how relieved I am to know I was mistaken to think the 4432 could be one of the Amber WU's that were bonus point WU's :rolleyes:

In all seriousness I could give a sh*t less if the 4423 WU is a bonus point WU or for that matter if it's an Amber type WU at all. My main concern, and I applologize if I wasn't clear in my previous post, was if having a frame time of 32m 19s wasn't a little on the high time side for this WU, this particuler cpu (stock Intel P4 2.60 GHz) and this boxen in general (you see I have read on this very forum that it may be more efficiently processed by a AMD chip) So in conclusion I was also wondering if it would be a good I idea to drag out my AMD 3000+ chip from the closet and set it up ? :confused: (I also have a Athlon X2 4200+ stashed in the closet too :D)

As far as dragging boxes out of the closet, thats a question that only you can really answer. It's your electric bill. Even with a conroe, I'm only seeing about 450PPD on these bonus units. That X2 would do better running SMP if you were to drag it out. You just have to be careful not to get any of those real chewy units on it.

I have not had one single chewy unit on my 4400+....and I think it has a lot to do with the fact that it's running notfred's diskless client....was getting 2653's consistently and now it seems to have moved onto the 2605's.....

Might want to consider the diskless client if you do choose to fire up some older boxen.... I'm getting around 150`160ppd on an old P4 2g boxen....

Linux without -advmethods and setting the mem to 256MB is working well for me. I made those changes after choking on a couple 2619's and have been eating a steady diet of 2605's ever since.

Oops, my bad alan2308. I didn't mean to imply I had any complete boxen in the closet. (I have since robbed many parts playing "musical parts swapping") :D

What I have is, among other computer parts in the closet collecting dust, is a couple of cpus. (Athlon 3000+, Athlon X2 4200+, a couple of C2D's and even an old 478, P4, 1.9 GHz. I just ain't gots the boards, the money or the time to set up more boxen. The electric bill is already killin' me (only kiddin') :rolleyes:

Sorry if I left the impression I had more complete boxen, cause I don't. :(

Edit: About the only reason I'm even asking about "single core" WU's is I worked on this lady's boxen (P4 stock 2.60 GHz) and had it hooked up to my KVM switch so I could show her how good my work is (brownie pernts on my behalf ;)) and she called and said to keep the boxen a few more days. So, to make a long story short, I installed the appropriate F@H client, FAHmon and away it went "crunchin'" a 4432 WU. :p

 
My P4 diskless isn't getting any of the bonus WU's, putting it @ 90ish PPD. Should I stick the hdd back in and run Unbuntu and the console client?

You should be getting them if you're running with -advmethods. I got them on both windows and linux.
 
Ok, these are very efficient WU. I tried a little experiment. I have 2 clients running on my 1.6 PenM, and I am completing them in under 24 hours(preferred is 20 days) and increased my ppd to 300+

Yeah, my console clients have been munching on these consistently for quite a while and they are a nice bonus indeed... hope they keep dishing them out!!

 
Pentium 4 1.8 w/ 256 ram is the box. it has some usage for other scheduled tasks for upload/download of files from a remote server, so it tends to average a good bit higher than the minimum frame, so i'll post both.

The only ones I have PPD for are the following:

4530: averaging 18:16/frame w/ a minimum of 16:32 --- don't know the credit to calculate PPD
4531: averaging 19:55/frame w/ a minimum of 19:50 --- don't know the credit to calculate PPD
4537: averaging 12:54/frame for 133 PPD w/ a minimum of 8:11 for 209 PPD
4538: averaging 2:54/frame for 233 PPD w/ a minimum of 2:44 for 248 PPD
4545: averaging 10:55/frame for 157 PPD w/ a minimum of 10:55 for 157 PPD
 
They've breathed new life into my poor old P3.
Could you list the client settings and flags you have set? I have a dual PIII 1.1GHz system that isn't receiving any of these bonus WUs except one which was early in the trial run. I know you need the -advmethods flag, but what other settings did you set?

1. PIII Celeron, bigpackets=no, 512MB RAM, WinXP
2. Athlon XP, bigpackets=yes, 512MB RAM, Win2k
3. Athlon XP, bigpackets=yes, 1GB RAM, Win2k
4. C2D, bigpackets=yes, 1GB RAM, Linux

I'm at a loss as to what else it could be. Perhaps blow it out and maybe then it'll hit the right server?

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. My settings are bigpackets=no, client type=0, memory=256 with the -adv flag. Right now, the clients are folding on a pair of 4432s, so I can't change the settings if I need to until Thursday at the earliest.
 
And they just keep on getting better. Project 4548 running along nicely at 260PPD on one of the boxes in the OP.
 
I was testing my client earlier today and found that unless I have the client type set to 3 in the .cfg file, I will not receive any of the bonus WUs. By changing it, I have been able to DL a couple of them.

According to FaHWiki (the only place I could find an explination of what the types are) type=3 indicates setting work units without deadline to no and -advmethods to yes when configuring the client.

Were you adding the flag manually to the executable? If so, maybe that doesn't work anymore and you have to set it in the config.

I tried with and without adding the flag. It didn't seem to have an effect, so I then tried changing the client type. It made all the difference changing from 0 to 3. :shrug:
 
So then apparently adding the flag does nothing now. That's a piece of information that would be good for people to know. :confused:
