Hey guys,

I just got my bolt through kit from Xigmatek for the S1283. I've got a Q6600 on an Abit IP35 Pro and it's been running fine for about a month and a half now.

Just a few questions before I try and fix something that already works just fine

1) What's the best way to clean off TIM? I'm using AS-MX2, I've got access to 200 proof Ethanol and Acetone.
2) Is there some trick to removing the existing pushpins? should I be concerned with saving them for the future for whatever reason?
3) How do I know when the bolts are sufficiently tight without damaging anything and getting good pressure?

Thanks in advance!

1) I would use Q-Tips and the ethanol. Then again, I do not use acetone for anything, so that might work too. Keep using the Q-Tips until they come back clean.

2) You can use two tiny flat head screw drivers and separate the tabs that are holding the black casting around the pin. I got three pins off the cooler ok, broke the 4th, then just threw them all out.

3) You keep screwing until the screws stop. The pressure is being applied by the springs, not the screws. When the screw is in all the way, the spring is exerting the expected level of pressure.

3a) Screw in the screws in a X pattern and do a few turns on each one to keep the pressure even as you tighten down the cooler.

acetone can cause problems with some plastics so don't use it on you computer. Ethanol is okay and pretty safe, just use appropriate caution. 90% alcohol is normally good enough for anything. Specialized cleaning kits are also available.

I just yanked the push pins off. I have no intention of switching to those.

I tightened the screws until they stopped, then backed them off a little.
