Bold 9700 vs. iPhone 3G

iPhone 3g owner here. I got one a bit unexpectedly for my birthday back in October, upgrading from a Blackjack II. It was a great switch, and my first time getting a data plan on a phone as well. The browsing is fast, smooth, and plain awesome. I soon got a little disappointed by the lack of customization on it. I was also disappointed in the camera. I could handle it being 2MP I guess, but no flash or auto-focus sucks pretty hard, not to mention NO VIDEO RECORDING? Seriously? Last but not least, the battery life sucks to say the least. I set my brightness on the lowest setting, and with moderate (maybe slightly heavy) use throughout the day, my battery will be maybe 30%. I can't hang with that.

This forced me to learn to jailbreak, which I successfully did using blackra1n. I was very pleased with having the ability to set custom themes, lock screens, manage my open apps (much like the windows task manager), video recording, etc. The only downside now is that there is a very noticeable speed reduction since I've jailbroken it. It's quite annoying actually. My texting lags up and freezes while typing, then suddenly 4 or 5 words appear out of nowhere after I've already typed them. The browser lags pretty bad too, especially when typing. I'm about to go crazy. I thought about restoring the phone, but the thought of not having video recording or any of the jailbroken apps isn't good either.

The Bold 9700 stands out for me because of its physical keyboard. I text a lot. I'm quick on my iPhone, but I still prefer real keys. I take quite a few photos, so the upgrade from 2mp to 3.2 is nice. I'll also get my much desired flash as well as auto-focus with the 9700. It's also got faster specs. My disadvantages will be the smaller screen (doesn't really bother me much) and the browser isn't quite as good as the iPhone. I'll also be missing out on the 100,000+ apps offered by the App Store, but 70% of those apps are either silly or not very useful...

So I'm stuck deciding between getting a 9700, restoring my 3G to get rid of the awful lag but lack on video recording and jailbroken apps, or lastly, figuring out a way to reduce this lag I have now while keeping it jailbroken.

I have had an iPhone since the original 2g release. I have had the same problem before when jailbreaking it. the lagging with the typing thing. I was able to resolve it by restoring the phone and then re-jailbreaking it. I have a 3g that is jailbroken using the black rain also and it doesn't lag a bit. You may want to try that before making any decisions.

I just made a pretty nice discovery. If I turn off my theme I had set on Winterboard, my free memory went from approx. 28MB to 50MB. Wow. Nice improvement. If this is what it takes to make this phone faster, I'm more than happy to use the default theme.
