system specs are in my sig

i would appreciate all the help i can get

WD drives require no jumper setting when it is the only device on the IDE channel. My guess is you have it jumpered to Master and that is what is causing the problems.

thanks i would pprecaite some more opoinions too, hw do i change the jumper settings in the manual it doesnt show which is the drive jumper

Agreed. WD's have a "single" drive setting. By setting to master it looks for a slave device to be attached. If that device isn't there, it'll cause problems.

You can get jumper settings from the WD website. IIRC, you won't use any jumpers at all, but don't hold me to that.

thanks fo all the help guys, so if i connect a dvd drive to my slave connecter wont have thsi problem and anyone have a link to that part of the WD site???

It should have a diagram on the drive what the jumpers should be. I'm dis-inclined to say it's an issue with it being jumpered to master though. I've always set my drives to master when they were the only drive, or one of two drives on the cable and never had a problem with that. The only problems I've seen are with cable select. Western digital, seagate, ibm, hitachi, never had a problem with it being jumpered master.

Just out of curiosity, did you crack the system open to check cables, power, ide, etc, just to make sure?

thanks blackrino and all of you other guys who helped me out ...i fixed it and now i am gonna install the drivers and sownload hl2 and i'm gonna play some mother freakin games
