Seti@Home, Predictor@Home, and Einstein@Home all now have HardOCP teams.

Einstein@Home (Gravitational Waves study)

Predictor@Home (Similar to F@H)

Seti@Home (Anyone watch Third Wave back in the day?)

Anyone that already runs these BOINC projects that reads the threads here regularly is welcome to join, I added the Einstein & Predictor ones myself after having no team to join, and the SETI one already existed for a while it appears before I joined it.

However, if you're new here, I'd say to REALLY help the guys out around here, fold for Stanford at Folding@Home, the official team here. I'm just posting links in case you're like me, you've started another program and want to run with it instead of a while, but I respect the primary team and program here, and dont want to 'steal' a single clock cycle. But like I said, if you're already using BOINC, come on over! :)

Besides, it's all for science anyway, in one field or another, right?

Yes, I saw the third wave!
Are you Aborigine? Are you Charlie? :D

Thanks xENo!!!

I liked BOINC a 100 times better then this F@H app, but F@H is easier to hide. Plus this place seems to be happy with F@H for some reason. I figured I'd help them overtake the aussies first.

I tried running einstein for another group and it had all kinds of issues. Not going back. It really hated a couple of my machines including the efficeon. I also really don't like the scoring method. Values not being fixed sucks.

Since when was Third Wave back in the day?? Didn't it start in 2000 or something? I thought when V originally aired was back in the day. I must just be getting old.

F@H and UD are the only [H]ard sanctioned DC teams. I still can't figured out why people do Seti@Home. I gave up on that in like 98', saw no benefit. At least with F@H we get tangible results.

I generally agree with you Spectre; the benchmark thing, except for the latest dev builds, doesn't even give repeatable results, and generally, it feels like a beta program. I just had to upgrade to a dev version for both the comps I have running it just so it would stop doing some.. well, problems. Predictor@Home seems to feed me a lot of WU's that don't play well, give fortran error messages, and die. Einstein has been good to me though. I've got 2ghz on Einstein and Predictor, and 1.2ghz on Seti@home. Getting a 2.2ghz A64 soon; probably will add on to Predictor, since it's medical research, a bit more important than other varieties.

I don't know though, I just like it. You can install it as a service now (4.25, saw the option), but havent tried it myself. Seems to require quite a bit more attention than FAH did when I used to run it, but.. I don't know, FAH never seemed to do it for me very well. I know it does for the rest of the site though, so just posted this for the weirdos that're like me and for what ever reason have an affinity for slightly buggy beta science software :D

Mayhem; you know, I actually missed like the whole last season, but.. feeling inspired to find a torrent soon..

With Enterprise having sucked so bad, and the cancelling of Farscape, I try to think of that as pretty far in the past, and now Battlestar Galactica being here in the more recent times, a brighter day..?

Does any station rerun Third Wave anyway? I haven't noticed it on SciFi ever since I started turning on the TV again to watch BSG.

cool, I have been looking for an Einstein team to join where I wouldn't get lost in the numbers. My Seti team seems to be dieing on the vine too. Would you guys take me?

I have the rights to b0rg three comps at school, asked the lap TA what not. I went to b0rg them and they all have einstein program on them so i asked if that was suppose to be there and he said no remove it and install F@H. Which i did and a week later einstein had been reinstalled. F@H was still running but the einstein priorty was much higher so F@H never got the processor. I removed einstein again and set the core priorty up a tad and went on my way. Then i checked again and they were back to running einstein. I don't have enough time to b0rg these comps every 3-4 days so i let it go. I told lab TA but they don't really pay attenetion to those comps and he said "Oh Well"

when we get a big lead on those down under folks maybe i switch one to one of these or something
edit: the reason i would switch is so i can play with it or something... but didn't say i would!!

That right there is our problem, people think after we get a lead it'll be there forever and their points just don't matter. That's something that is killing us. I don't care if we have a zillion point lead, Folder to the end! (aka the cure)

Maybe you should get off your high horse and take a look at some of the BOINC projects. At least one of them does the same thing the stanford project does.

As far as I know, [H]ardOCP team is only participating in 2 projects - Stanford FAH and UD. So, I am not sure about BOINC or these other projects. Mind you, I was away for 12 months, so maybe these are now official projects. Perhaps a member of the Hardcouncil can comment on these projects.

I don't think he is on a high horse and I like his attitude of "Folder till the End".

Keep up the good work [H]orde!

Corrrect, there are only 2 "Team projects". Although we took first place back in folding that joy may be short lived, espcially if the "team" starts jumping on other projects and taking power away from the main two.

There used to be a "Goal" here on the team, the cure. I'm sure there are other projects out there that are good, but none are supported by the "Team" at [H].

Like anything else if you spread youselves to thin nothing will get done.

If that's the case why not stick with the team where you already have points and continue on for the cause? Stanford is recognized, published and is generally known as the leader. Why reinvent the wheel?

i said i might... haven't done it yet

Granted these projects are not " Hard|cop " team projects, but they are DC projects. They are for the good of man. This is why we DC . If we are the #1 team in any given project, thats just icing on the cake.

So please stop bickering about what project is better. It dosent make you any more
[H]ardcore.

Well said DR.K

btw I am a big fan of Stanford just b/c I have the biggest p3n15....I mean stats in it. :D
