Anyone have a recommendation for a motherboard for an Opteron 165?
Will the Asus 8n32-SLI support this processor?

very few boards support the opty but it will still work

Pretty much any socket 939 decent brand name board supports opterons....even though it might not say so.

Nearly all s939 boards support s939 Opterons. Some might not recognize it properly out of the box, but a BIOS flash would fix that.
To the OP: If you plan on getting the most out of the 165, the 9x multi will most likely be a limiting factor. You'd probably need a board that can hit a high HTT to reach the chip's limit. The A8N32-SLI would be able to do that, as would DFI boards.

you probably mean, very few boards officially support it, but will still run it without problems.
BTW, buy a DFI Expert or DFI Ultra-D. They have the best OCing options and that's what the Opteron 165 is all about. I think the Asus will be a limiting factor in OCing the Opteron.
DFI ftw :p

Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe is a great board! Mine is very stable with a 3500+ and I know some people running Opterons fine in it too.

but isn't it overpriced and out of stock?
The DFI Expert gives better performance and costs less AND is in STOCK :p

While we're at it, what would be some good RAM for overclocking an Opteron 165? I am very new to overclocking. :(

I like the Corsair 3500LL XMS RAM. It has the LED Activity lights and says right on the box that it works best on the Asus A8N32-SLI. I have never had a problem with Corsair. I'd say go for 2GB of RAM. It will probably cost you just shy of $300. If you're on a tigheter budget then go for G.Skill, Mushkin or OCZ they all have top of the line products that overclock well.
