This isn't true. It depends on what you want to do with your BD discs. If you burn your own Blu-Rays, you should be able to play them back in VLC or something. Toast supports burning BD-ROM, too.
3rd party programs will let you do everything you need with OS X and BD, just not Apple's own software.
Perhaps you would like to help the OP out and name some stuff.
There is no software available is capable of playing Blu Ray movies normally on a Mac. This is thanks to the DRM SONY put onto their discs. HDCP requires that ALL of the hardware (not just the software) be compliant and fully licensed for playback. Mac has yet to have this put into it.

the video card, the monitor and (obviously) the BD-Rom need to be HDCP enabled to work. Doesnt matter what the OS is... if one of those components are missing, then it wont work.
However, if you're running windows, you can use something like AnyDVD HD to "strip" the requirement for HDCP
