Bluetooth - Why not so prevalent?

I never was a believer of Bluetooth enabled products when Bluetooth first hit the market. It wasn't until a few months back that I gave it some thought and tried out a few bluetooth products. Microsoft's bluetooth mouse, Jabra's BT250V, Nextel's BT-enabled blackberries have all shown to be great products. I use them daily with absolutely no problems. I was at Fry's last night braving the 'after black friday' crowds looking for a bluetooth keyboard. There were absolutely none! There was a Logitech setup that came w/ a BT-enabled mouse but that was roughly $140. Every other 'wireless' setup required the use of some ugly USB/PS2 plug-in 2.4ghz receiver. That's unacceptable.. I'd like to use something more universal like bluetooth. I'm down to looking in to purchasing an Apple bluetooth keyboard as it shows to be the only decent one on the market.

Why is this? Why did bluetooth only catch on in the european markets and not the U.S. markets?
