So, I have a blackberry pearl 8100 and it has the ability to sync to my laptop via bluetooth. However, i dont have bluetooth on my laptop. I am currently just using the usb cable provided. I was looking into a bluetooth dongle. Will this work? I have windows vista 32bit. If it will can someone recommend me a good dongle. They are advertised all over ebay and cellphone sites CHEAP, and i want to make sure i get something that works. Thanks

Sure, it'll work. The cheap ones, though, vary wildly. Some of them are excellent. Some of them are completely non-functional Chinese knock-offs with blacklisted MAC addresses. Afraid I can't recommend any specific ones, as all my laptops now have integrated BT, though I was using a D-Link previously with mixed results.

D-Link DBT-120 is decent and has a $10 rebate by 4/30/08 which brings the price down to $20 at most places.

I have a bluetooth dongle that is supposedly real easy ...it was cheap...$17.00 (it's bluesoleil)
and
can't get the thing to work with my bb pearl 8100 because I have vista 64. Should
work with 32 bit though cause the support for 32 bit seems to be much better than
for the 64 bit version.
I have run into more problems due to lack of drivers for the 64 or incompatibility with
no help.

otherwise, if I don't want to add anything or use anything cool like bluetooth ...vista 64
runs pretty solid. LOL.

For gaming it's actually been really good. But I can't get it to work with my phone or anything
like that.

I was actually gonna ask someone if they had any help for me. LOL

The sync via bluetooth is way overrated. #1, you can't transfer files over bluetooth because its mega slow. All it will do is sync your contacts, calendar and such.

Previously, the Blackberry software required you to be running the Microsoft BT stack (no aftermarket drivers and such), but I'm not sure if that's changed. Definitely get the new 4.5 B16 desktop software if you haven't and give it a try. It's available on the Blakcberry website.

I use a bluetooth dongle on my PC at home to sync files between my samsung phone and to send files to it. I tried to look it up on newegg but it seems they don't sell it anymore. Just check newegg and read reviews thats what I did. I think I ended up spending 20 bucks shipped.

I actually have desktop manager 4.5 and it doesn't work. Let me explain. It looks like it
works. I can take a file and move it from my pc to my storage card and while my phone is
plugged into my pc I can see the files. All of them. I can even play the music. But as soon
as I unplug from the pc and just look in the phone media ....all is empty.

5 hours on blackberry support and they closed my case ....lied to tmobile about it being about another matter entirely and they gave me a phone number that doesn't work.

So I virtually wasted 5 hours of my saturday trying to fix a problem that I still have.

I am back on the phone with support now. I am not happy with blackberry support.

You're the one who flat out lied to them. lol.

Reformat the card ON THE PHONE and try again.

Just how did I lie to them? I've already reformatted the card. That was one of the many
things I have already done.
