dont know where to post this but I was thinking of getting a sonyericsson bluetooth headset which only has a range of 30feet. And probably that's 30 feet LOS no walls. so, can anyone point me in a direction where I can mod this sucker for extended range?

theres not like a wire that you can solder that can make it transmit farther (sorry...). if you purchaced a full spectrum amp and hooked it up to your receiver you could receive from a greater distance. without lugging an amp around you couldent realy extend the range.

well any possible way to like boost the power on this headset? or is the amp on the phone the only way

the limits on bluetooth are not arbitray FCC numbers, it has to do with the physical range of the transmitter given the batterys (and expected battery life) and current draw. so no. unless you want to burn more batterys?

Bluetooth is not intended as a long range wireless protocol. Just as you get WANs (wide area networks), and LANs (local area network), Bluetooth is considered a PAN (personal area network) technology - one that has an operational range around your person ... so, going beyond 30' just aint gunna happen.

Having said that, there are hacks out there that can increase your distance and range. These tend to be more focused on data connectivity - such as the BlueSnipe rifle used to BlueSnarf a phone over 1.7km away.

As you can see from some of the pics, strapping that type of gear onto a BT headset kinda defeats the purpose of having the headset. You be better off leaving your phone in your pocket or attached to your belt, and just using the headset how it was intended.

Just get a ton of other bluetooth stuff, replace every keyboard, mouse, cell phone and anything else blue tooth you can find!

Why would you need it to be longer then 30ft? It sort of defeats the whole purpose of BT if it's much longer then that.

well something like if i'm in a house, i'd rather carry just the headseat around since I use my cell as my primary contact. Or if i'm at the gym, I can leave my phone in a locker and just carry the headset around.
