I have one of these for my Intel 630 overclocking project. My goal was 4ghz 24\7 stable but it looks like I can not meet that with this cooler. I mean I can but not that the temps I would like.

I applied just the right amount of Artic Silver 5 and have the heatsink installed corectly.

@3.75Ghz I get Idle = 40C Load =67C @1.415V in Bios

@3.8-4Ghz I get Idle = 41C Load = 68C @1.42-1.45 in Bios

Why are my temps soo high? Does the Blud Orb 2 not cool that well?

I want to get a new heatsink.
What is a few of the best ones under 50 bucks?

Zalman9500 CNPS LED. idles temp seems fine but load temp shouldn't shoot up that high.

not only is the blue orb not that great, but p4s are toasty :p

if i were u, id go with the scythe ninja and a quiet fan

The Blue Orb II is nothing special, it doesn't offer anything that the competitors don't already have. If anything, it's just like a larger, (slightly) quieter version of the boxed Intel LGA775 cooler. It is also unnecessarily large and heavy.

Thermalright Ultra-120
Zalman 9500
Scythe Ninja
Scythe Mine
Thermalright SI-128

Zalman 9500 or the ninja are both great heat sinks.

Although the orb is indeed nothing to right home about, those temps do seem very high, maybe remount just to be safe?

I have taken the motherboard tray out took off the heatsink and checked to make sure the right amount of Artic Silver was applied. I don't get why my temps are so high. The heatsink is on there really good.

I think I am going to go with the Scythe Ninja PLUS! SCNJ-1000P. I hope it will offer better load temps than my Blur Orb II did.

Anyone ran this on a Intel chip at 4ghz?

i didn't have the ninja on a intel chip but i had a dual core opty at 2.8 and it kept it under 52C
which is pretty good.

In addition to addressing the processor heat issues, you may want to address case ventilation problems that may be exacerbating a poor heatsink. The Lian Li 61 in your signature really needs a better exhaust path.

Today when I took my side case off my temp dropped from 64-65C to 57-58!!!

Why is my case holding in soo much heat?

Here is a sideshot of my pc.

Notice you can't see it but I have 2 fans blowing down below where the HD cage is and 1 blow hole up top.

sounds like youve got air pressure balance problems if you have more air going out than coming in you get negative pressure and a heat build up. i would suggest balancing air flow and possibly adding a little slot cooler to increase air flow if u dont want to replace case fans with more powerful but more noisy fans lol also if u can cut a blow hole in the side and direct air at the area between gfx card and cpu cooler that will prob help temps as it gives 'clean' air to cpu cooler and helps push hot air away thats rising from the gpu. a simple cheap method that worked for me bro in law was taking off a couple of spacer plates.

Thermaltake Big Typhoon. As good as any of those above especially when using a quiet fan.

Agreed, I own a TT Typhoon and it had done a great job with cooling my 3700+. Although from what I have been reading the Scythe Ninja, is definatly a worthy competitor. But I dont think you could go wrong with either.

They are loud - but - if your wanting TRULY AWESOME air cooling, go with what I used to have. Asus StarIce. I too run my 630 at 3.75 - and operating temperature under load was in the area of 35 C. Also - I will agree with the previous posters, make sure your sucking out the same amount of air that your pushing in. Make sure all your fans are flowing the same direction. I always pull in from the front and push out the back. Your PSU is probably pulling outside also, keep that in mind. Your going to be noisey when it comes to air cooling. You can also be noisey when it comes to water cooling. But noisey water cooling GENERALLY means that your cooling a lot more.

Asus StarIce - should run you around 40 dollars - full copper - and i believe it has a 90 cfm fan on the front of it.

Re-route all your cables from your HD - make sure there isn't a big area where air is being trapped. If your using IDE - use the round IDE cables - ignore people who tell you they cause slower transfer speeds - were talking IDE here - not scsi - your not transfering that fast anyway lol. If your using SATA - run them behind your motherboard tray. Keep everything as far out of the way as possible. That chip shouldn't be running that hot. Even with the stock cooling from Intel - 3.75 should be about 61 under load. Your not damaging the chip yet, but remember - cooler life = longer lifespan.

:)

Good info. I have pretty good cable managment. I have all the extra power cables and SATA cables behind the mb tray. I opened up 2 extra expansion slots near my sound card and that helped the case get some fresh air into it. But Im still seeing around the same temps.

What really pisses me off is when I set my computer to run at 4ghz now like I did last month it will not run Prim95 stable for more than a few mins. It used to run at least 2 or 3 hours at that speed. I wonder why.

See a private message I sent you. I would like to chat with you as to what you are doing. I have never been able to get my system stable past boot running anything other than 3.75. Crashed everytime.

That AC X2 on your video card isn't helping your temps any. It pumps the blazing hot air on to your motherboard instead of out the back. >.< Taking off the side panel probably helps this hot air escape faster.

Also on the Artic Silver 5, it took mine about 3 days to cure. So maybe you haven't waited long enough? Also I just got the Thermalright SI-128 and it is amazing, my highest load temp while running Super Pi was 40C.

Try running 2 Prime95's at the same time. It will use more cpu.

I think I am going to run 3.8ghz for now and just leave it at that. By the time I need to run 4ghz for newer games I will just get a new mobo and CPU I guess.
