is another company

MO are 3x as expensive, require just as much "work" (none), and have extremly shady business practices.

so I can see how theyre better.

If you want to put it on your door, there will be work to do. Theres no way around it. Either commit to doing the work or dont do the mod at all. Getting things premade are useless and are not worthy of showing off to other people.

...not saying that you are looking for premade ones...but just saying in general...It seems that too many people here are going towards everything being made for them. [H] is starting to lose its meaning because of these people.

Some photos of my LCD in my door that i did. I've upgraded my computer since these pictures...for specs, see sig.

Oh, and i got that LCD for crystalfontz.com. Decent prices and service....

But LCDC support is a big advantage that only the Matrix Orbital displays can boast.

Hmmm, reading this thread gave me an idea I'll never use but someone may like:

How about a blue translucent window (i.e. not quite see-through) looking like a computer monitor with a VFD behind it, showing BSOD errors:

"PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA"

or

"DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"

etc

with a little blinking cursor?

cute, but its a lot for a small effect...would be cool messin around though

Don't compare CF's bare models you need to hookup to your LPT with their and MO's finished usb/serial models, if you buy a finished product you get alot of extra features such as backlight control, usb connection ,GPO's,keypad ,tempsensors and fan control which seems to justify the extra cost, what do you mean by "extremly shady business practices" ??

I would take what Kronchev posted with a grain of salt unless this is based by his personal dealings with the company. I have never had an issue with Matrix Orbital and LCDC is a fantastic piece of software. If you don't want Crystalfontz or Matrix Orbital and want another alternative your might want to check out the L.I.S LCD module from VL System:

http://www.vlsys.co.kr/en/

There are a number of retailers who carry their product in the U.S and Canada. Keep in mind they use their own customized application software which is not as robust as LCDC or Crystal Control.

considering i was comparing apples to apples and not bare models to complete models, I would say that you dont really have any basis except for your limited knowlege and zero experiance.

yeh, those sure look like the ones you have to hand-wire into DB-25 port...oh wait, you mean theyre USB or serial, with fan sensors, fan controllers, buttons, and pretty much everything MO has?

You said MO LCDs cost three times as much. That is not true as their serial and USB kits would cost $180.00 - $240.00. Don't get mad because people try to make sense of your exaggerations. I too would be interested in hearing what you meant by "extremly shady business practices"

Hey I think the point of this post is not where to buy an lcd...but how to mount it in an antec door...I want to know this too. I don't know how to make it look good...the door being rounded and all.

Lets stop the chat about what lcd is the best and get back to the point of the thread please.

The door of my case snapped off so I thought I'd make my own and put an LCD in there. I got the idea from seeing what Macroman did with a clear case. (scroll down to the middle of the page)

Wow aren't you a flaming little fellow.. well let me introduce my selve i'm the author of lcdstudio and have worked with pretty much all mayor Lcd manufacturers targeting the consumer market and various industrial targeted displays. So my limited knowledge and zero experiance you are assuming is simply untrue.

You didn't say what you where compairing so I assumed you where compairing the parallel ones to a serial units (which would justify your 3 time higher price) ofcourse me assing stuff based on your unfounded lies justifies your flames towards me...NOT!

but having browsed both sites just now and comparing prices of 'similar' (not identical!) models i have come up with the following prices:

4x20 serial unit with blue backlight (bare model):
CF ( CFA634-TMC-KS ) $65
MO ( LCD2041-WB ) $59.59

5.25" black bay unit with blue lcd, keypad, tempsensors GPOs, fan control and usb external cable:

CF (2x16 unit CF633,price calculated using CF Kit configurator) $ 83.25
MO (2x20 unit MX2) (bigger display and comes with LCDC license) $99.99

before you start flaming i'm comparing the wrong models CF has indeed just launched a 2x20 bay model :

CF (631 USB LCD 20x2 +Keypad) $62.20

But it is missing the fancy features such as fans, tempsensors and gpo's.

So yes both CF and MO are more expensive then any parallel unit you will ever buy but they are easyer to install and have more features. Choosing between the two is up to personal taste I guess. i'm not biassed towards MO nor CF (they are both great companies with really helpfull and friendly people behind it) but what you are doing here is pure unjustice towards MO.

The grunge you have towards them must have come from somewhere so what did they try to pull on you with their 'extremly shady business practices' ?

but that just my €0.0158392 EUR (dollar is really cheap now!)

the 631's will be coming with an advanced controller board soon. as it stands they have the GDO's, just nothing hooked up.

I know there will be an addon board, but it will have an extra price tag which is still unknown, do you mind repsonding on any of the other points i mentioned?

kronchev,

I hate to do it, but I'm going to have to agree with EVERYONE else who has posted in this thread comparing CFs to MOs. Both have their advantages, but unless you can point out a reason or two why you believe that Matrix Orbital has "extremly shady business practices," than your argument is unfounded and is just an opinion with no support. ( hehe, I'm taking a Philosophy class this semester and we get to argue in it :D )

I've dealt with MO a number of times and EVERY TIME they have impressed me with excellent customer service, very friendly staff, and an overall very strong buisness ethic. I don't have any personal experience with CF, but from every indication that I can tell, they are just HD44780 LCDs with pretty colors and a PIC controller that handles serial I/O and the GPIOs (as Matrix Orbital does too).

As you know kronchev, I am no fan of these premade LCDs (I prefer home-made interfaces myself ;) ) but I would not hesitate to recommend MO to someone who had the urge and the money to buy one.

Your only other point was the business practices thing. That refers to the "coincidence" that LCDC is bundled with MO, yet does not have support for CF displays and NEVER will. Its not shady, but its being a big sonofabitch in a market where there are very few apps, since anything that mightve been good has fallen victim to lazy programmers.

I'd still really love so see your prove your 3 times higher price claim, the reason you think you have for bashing into people like this.

For LCDC being MO only it's just a business thing between matt and MO, MO could have a software advantage (if you like LCDC I personally don't) and matt has a steady income comming from LCDC licenses. CF is doing pretty much the same only with their control center. The only difference is that CC is developped inhouse by an CF employe who got payed to get CC CF only and matt is a 3th party. Both CF and MO are supporting people writing software for their displays by sending them development models and giving them pretty good technical support so i really don't see your point of bashing into one or another other then just pure unfounded personal taste.

No, the only difference is CC can work with other LCDs, while LCDC is made in such a way you have to have defination files for the module youre using, and hes not allowed to write one for CF displays. I dont know why CF chooses to have CC developed in-house, since they outsourced for at least one other prog.

I do like LCDC, I like it mostly because its one of few LCD programs where the author hasnt abandoned, and its the only one that gets regular updates. CC does get minor updates but never really anything new; LCDSmartie hasnt been updated for a while; and LCDriver and LCD Studio are orphans.

there WILL be updates, the fathers havnt done what has happened and dropped it for no reason

In my opinion you did LCD Studio was on it's way to being the greatest LCD program out there .. Compleat support for every popular LCD... Graphical Display support .... Compleat configurablity

you really let me down

Guys, really, how about you take this somewhere else instead of bickering about who's LCD is bigger than who's [b/c that's really what this is beginning to sound like]. Keep to the subject...

And sorry, the only ideas I have about a panel for the LCD is if it were flat, is there a way to make something like that curved? How about somehow mounting it and putting a bent piece of plexiglass so it rounds over it... Sort of like a D. The straight line is the LCD, and the curve is the plexiglass part of the door.

You let me down too Yar. Remember, I was a beta tester as well. I had forgotten about the prog since I didnt have any LCDs hooked up, now that I'm back into them, I only really have LCDSmartie which closes itself randomally. LCDStudio already is amazing, but it couldve been so much better.

Thats not what this thread is about in any case
