Blu-ray with Macbook?

You can't play Blu-Ray movies with a Mac. There is no decoder that will play them, and DVD Player doesn't support them.

Actually, I can take an x264 movie at 1080P resolution, play it through MPlayer, hook a DVI to HDMI cable up to my 55" Sony SXRD and get it to play 1080P through my MBP. Can your graphics card on the MB support that external resolution? I have a set of speakers hooked up to the MBP, using the Apple Remote which controls MPlayer works fine and you can even dim the laptop screen and just have the TV running.

but yes correct, Apple products do not have a decoder built in the players can have codecs which will allow the play back. I don't think Apple will be adding Blu Ray to the laptops anytime soon either.

So you're saying you were able to play a Blu-Ray disc with MPlayer, or just a video at 1080p?

My Macbook has problems playing ripped [for backup purposes, obviously] content at 1080p. It is more or less unwatchable. 720p is very watchable, although I do get the dropped frame here and there. The vanilla Macbook won't be powerful enough for 1080p content.
