So I posted a little while ago about which software to use on my computer to watch blu ray movies and I was told Totalmedia theatre 3. I am wondering if this is still the case. I am getting my new rig on tuesday so I am wondering which one to get

That's what I've found I like the most is the Total Media Theatre 3.
 
You could also rip the bluray with Anydyd. Then you could play the actual files themselves with Media player classic or convert to a more friendly format. Downside is you dont get the menu, but you don't need the disc to watch. Just another option.

There's also a free program called MakeMKV that does the same thing. It decrypts the disk and spits out a full quality .mkv file of the movie.
 
I think you should edit your post to make it clear if you are looking to play a blu-ray DISC or a bluray MOVIE. I have a feeling you are wanting to play DISCs, and if you don't specify you get 30 suggestions on how to rip and play off your hard drive. Funny thing is, people just assume you have 5TB available in your HTPC for your bluray library.
Anyway, i prefer TMT3 over PDVD9. In my experience (i used both trial versions, something you might want to consider as well), i had problems with playback on some discs with powerdvd9 (mostly sony/columbia titles). I had absolutely no problems with any disc i threw at TMT3.
 
If you want to play actual blu-ray discs, then I recommend PowerDVD9. I actually have problem with it with my hd-dvds once in a while, but that's expected since it's a dead format anyways. But when it works, it's wonderful. I dare to say the video quality is also better than TMT3. Download both trials, and you might agree. Also, PDVD9 supports WAY more upmixing technologies if you ever decide to go 7.1. Also the upmixing in TMT3 only works in certain movies, not all, in my tests.
However, the only problem with PDVD9 is that it doesn't support MKV containers, which is a huge bummer, but you shouldn't care about it if you want to play the actual discs, not the backups. Also, PDVD9 doesn't support bit-streaming if you even happen to get one of those HDAV1.3 cards, which TMT3 does, but I personally wouldn't care about it because LPCM is lossless too

Overall, I recommend PDVD9. Give the trials a shot, and you might agree.
 
I myself have also been straddling the fence about whether to choose PowerDVD9 or TMT. I currently have PowerDVD 7 Ultra but since upgrading to Windows 7 I'm stuck with an earlier build 4407 and if I try to install any later updates the installation always errors out. My mind is set so I'm not going back to Vista. I downloaded the trial from TMT and the best feature it has is its integration with Media Center. The bad thing is that the Dolby Digital stream is disabled in the trial version due to license restrictions which sucks. Also I feel theres less customization options than what PowerDVD 7 had. For the Blu-ray version of TMT it costs $89.99 but if I upgrade to PowerDVD 9 its only gonna set me back $59.99. Now I havent tried PowerDVD 9 yet but I assume it plays like PowerDVD 7 with some improvements. In my case scenario what do you guys suggest I do?
 
I'll toss in my 2 cents... I've been using PDVD (first when HDDVDs came out, and then 9 with BR) and haven't had any problems... until last night. Netflix dropped off 21 and the Machinist on my doorstep so I went to watch one last night.... BOTH of them crapped out in PDVD (21 was fine until the main title tried to start playing, Machinist wouldn't even load). No matter what I tried, POS wouldn't play either disc.

I then installed TMT3 and 21 loaded up and played beautifully without a hitch. Yes the interface on PDVD9 is far better (or at least has more features) but all of that doesn't mean jack shit if it doesn't play discs!

PowerDVD also does this, and if you have mymovies it will integrate that into the player the first time you run it after install
 
I am still waiting for the slyplayer. Using pwrdvd8 until that comes out though.
 
I had some movies that PowerDVD wouldn't play and the trial of TMT played both.
 
I'm leaning more towards TMT but is there anyway to get a discount on it bcuz $89.99 is pretty steep for me :(
