I have been looking into replacing my Pioneer DVR-K06 slim DVD slot-loading drive to allow Blu-Ray playback. Newegg carries only one slim drive, a Sony NEC Optiarc ($305) that has an ejecting-tray. I have only found one slot-loading drive, the Panasonic UJ-225-B, but it costs more than twice as much ($650). I would think that less parts (no ejecting-tray) would register less.

Any ideas on a cheaper Blu-Ray slim drive?... or do I just need to wait for an indefinite amount of time with hope and glory?

Is that the only slot loading bluray, or the only slim factor slot loading bluray. I was considering a regular size slot loader for the Antec 1480 (you can rest it horizontally or vertically)

Actually a slot loading drive is alot more complicated as it has to have a drive motor and gears to pull the disk in/out plus the sensor to detect when you try to load a disk. A tray loader just simply uses a spring and latch system.

i really like how you got your Drive mounted, looks like it was made that way, had to look close to notice it was a Antec 900. What drive bays are those?

I know how you feel about slot-loading drives. They are great, but noone makes them. I think I have the last high end slot-loading drive made - the Plextor 716AL. However, they do not make slim blu-ray drives. Car manufacturers get slot loading drives right all the time, what's so hard about PC slot loaders?

They are Silverstone CFP51-Bs, powder coated black of course.

What I might do, is just buy a cheaper 5.25" Blu-Ray drive and run it out of an external enclosure box thru my eSATA. This way it will cost much less, and I can watch Blu-Ray flix while I wait for a slot-loader to come down in price.
