I have an old Compaq Deskpro PIII 600E MHZ and I installed XP SP3 on it (I use the computer for hardware & Software that will not work on Windows 7) However I want to have network access (To transfer files from my other computers) But I don't want the computer to have internet access as I don't want to install all of the updates or install an anti virus suite. The computer has a Intel 10/100 PCI Network card W/WOL.
I have a router a Netgear WNR3500 V1
Is it possible to have network access without access to the internet on a consumer level router and if so how?
Thanks

in your router firewall settings you should be able to set a block protocol for HTTP on that specific port the system is using..

but like gwarren said you can just turn off windows update and delete your AV program.. windows xp doesnt do forced updates like windows vista/7 do..

Set a static I.P. and don't give it a default gateway..

This will let you have local network communication with devices on your LAN, but traffic will not be able to route outside of that.

You'll want to jump into the configuration menu for your router. Usually there are things like Parental Controls that can do this. My modem also has a method to simply deny web access to any PC I have connected.
