I keep having problem after problem, not sure if the drive is bad or not, so would appreciate a little help.
I ordered a 74 GB Raptor from newegg for the computer in my signature, which was running from my 120GB seagate (IDE). I hook up the Raptor to the SATA header on my motherboard, and leave the Seagate alone. Then I pop in my XP Pro CD (slipstreamed with SP2, used it many times before with zero problems), and try to install Windows.
At first, there's no problems, it formats and copies the installation files to the hard drive and everything just fine, but when it goes to the screen where it starts installing components and everything, it starts acting strange... Sadly, I don't remember the exact screens, but it starts saying really weird stuff, like "couldn't install device DRIVER" and "couldn't install device CD-ROM" or something, and reboots. It then goes through the process over-and-over.
I thought it might have something to do with the CD, so I try it again with other CD drive, and used my other XP install disk. Same thing.
So I just boot into XP with the Seagate, and using Norton Ghost 9, I ghost my Seagate drive to the Raptor. Then I shut down, unplugged the Seagate to make sure I was booting from the Raptor, and booted back up. Everything seems to go fine, but when it gets to the blueish screen on bootup with the "Windows XP" logo (right before it goes to the desktop), it just sits there, for like 2 minutes straight. Then it finally starts to load the desktop, but then stops for like another minute or two before Exporer finishes loading.
It does this every time I reboot, but once it's up, it seems to be fine. I can't get my Seagate to work with it either, though. I even deleted the partition on the Seagate so that it can't try to boot from it, then hooked it up, and it says whatever that screen is that says something along the lines of:
"INVALID SYSTEM DISK REPLACE AND PRESS ANY KEY TO CONTINUE". or whatever that screen is.
I've run both the quick and long versions of Western Digital data lifeguard diagnostics, and the Raptor passed with flying colors.
Basically, should I RMA it? Or does the Raptor seem to not be the problem?
I've never used an SATA drive before, so it might just be stupid "user error" on some part, or perhaps a bad SATA channel on my motherboard? I've tried both the "SATA 1" and "SATA 2" headers with the same results.

edit: Oh yeah, forgot to mention something. At first, even after I ghosted it, I couldn't get my Raptor to boot. I did a "repair" install through the XP CD and then it worked (sort of, see the orig. post about hanging up on boot up and general acting weirdness).
