Blank LCD?

Ok, so I'm running dual mon. CRT is primary, LCD is secondary.
When I have my computer on and I turn off the LCD for a sec and turn it back on, it displays crazy stuff on the screen or just turns grey or black. I have to restart my comp for the LCD to work normally again. Is this normal?
