Best buy did not say anything official. It was more of a best guess/reading tea-leafs thingy.

As for the release date, a few rumors of 11/17 have been published online.

Pricing, well, we think that VZW will want to directly compete with the iphone, and the rumors were that the phone would be less than the bold on ATT.

I could very well be wrong, but I do think it's safe to say November. I really like the plans they have for it!
 
has anyone come across WHY they haven't included WiFi with this phone? was it a simple carrier issue or what ?

because to me, it seems kind of pointless to rival the iPhone without having one of the most important features installed ... (that being WiFi)
 
Verizon doesn't like WiFi in their devices. Vodafone's Storm does have WiFi, however.

OK, Maybe I am missing something here. Why is WiFi important?

I am struggling to think of uses for it on a 3g network.
 
how is that cheap??? its also useful in a place where u dont get good 3g reception but have a wifi connection (inside certain buildings and whatnot)
 
i need wifi. everywhere i go theres wifi and im a college student and would have to pay for the dataplan if i went for 3G which is ridiculously expensive.
 
I want one, but WiFi is a deal breaker...think Verizon will leave any room for hacks...They are known for shutting out hacks from their proprietery os.

looking forward to the storm but overall the move by VZ is lame.

Worth noting, you can't activate a BlackBerry on verizon's network without a data plan and their least expensive data plan (BIS 29.99) is still unlimited, so you reasoning doesn't really fly in this case.

That is actually incorrect, neither version of the BlackBerry Storm has WiFi.
 
Oh. Well last I read on engadget about the 9500, it was said to have WiFi. Oh well. WiFi isn't necessary on Verizon's network. No idea about over in Europe.

BlackBerry's run BlackBerry OS. I think you might be confusing that with BREW which is a Qualcomm thing and that is what Verzion keeps locked down on all there "dumb" phones.
 
Looks like November 21st is the date. $199.99 AFTER $50 mail-in. I know I'm in for one :D

I just see WiFi as one or if not THE most important feature in these new smart phones, regardless of how or if you want to pay for a data plan right now, I just honestly believe that it's pointless to go after quote on quote " the daddy of smart phones " without all your guns blazing. Because personally as a student who just recently graduated, I don't see the need nor the point of why I should own a laptop when you have smart phones as advance as they are right now.

I know this question may not be able to be answered but any idea if RIM is coming out with either a version of the Storm or something else later that will have WiFi ? Because as of right now I'm up here in Toronto and on the crappy Bell service, I was excited to hear that the Storm was going to be some cdma / world / gsm / mix of dual band technologies, however after realizing that it won't have WiFi... I'm not sure if it has any appeal.

You're required to get the data plan if you buy a Blackberry device. There is no way around it. Since you will have the unlimited 3G data plan why would you want to use the Wi-fi? That makes no sense.

well, I understand that wifi becomes less important with 3G, especially after owning a 3G device myself for a little while now.. but in places were you have bad signal, wifi is a nice alternative..
 
This clickable touch screen stuff is a gimmick. If I really valued tactical feedback that much, I'd go with the Bold.

Ok, so firstly, to say that a clickable touchscreen is a gimmick is outright ree-donk-ulous. I hardly think that RIM would risk this much on a gimmick. I think what they have likely achieved is close to zen for that increasing segment of the population that actually works AND has a life outside of work. God forbid we actually get a decent resolution full screen device with the ability to ACTUALLY type with reasonable accuracy.

Every single review and preview seems to think that RIM really pulled this off with style. The only question in my book is the long term reliability of the phone and it's click screen. I think that 'lock' feature will also be more important than ever....lots of pocket dialing potentially.

it does make sense becuase up here our providers / carriers claim to offer unlimited services but the truth of the manner is that they are not actually unlimited. sry :(

I have an iPhone and have no problems without the physical response. The same would probably be the same for the Blackberry Storm. If they never incorporated it into the phone, I'm guessing it would still sell the same. If I was buying a touch screen phone, I would not take the tactical feedback into consideration and would not think it is a big feature over the iphone. I think that goes for most people.

Now if a business person wanted a phone with tactical feedback, they'd take the Bold over the Storm every time.
 
ok, for the people whining about wifi

your reasons are all incredibly stupid
1. verizon's 3g network is faster than at&t's
2. if you dont get good signal for 3g, whats to say you will be in range of a wifi network
3. not so much here, but other places people were complaining about the price being prolly too high, well with more hardware, price goes up
4. YOU ARE REQUIRED WITH VERIZON AND BLACKBERRIES TO HAVE INTERNET WITH IT


oh yes, and to the person that says AT&T has better coverage than verizon, worldwide yes, nationwide no (and by the way, the storm is a world phone, meaning that the storm will have better worldwide coverage than any at&t phone)
 
Wi Fi is important to me.
No ifs and buts about it.
I enjoy using my home networks faster wifi connection to surf the web with my BB pearl.
Whatever I have AT&T so this doesnt impact me much at all now.
 
If you're at home, are you honestly that lazy to where you can't jump on your laptop or desktop? :rolleyes:

There is absolutely no need for wifi with this phone.

no need to get upset there dude, some of us are saying that WiFi is important to US, it's perfectly acceptable for us to want or expect such a feature.

also, not every one on this forum is from the US, so our plans, rates, and prices are different. for example i'm fairly positive that roger's has a $30 / month data package that's like 6gb of data and that's with a specialty $30 dollar off limited time reaction to apple reacting poorly to their data plans and weaker then anticipated sales. So that package is not worth the money, but their unlimited packages are out of range for most non corporate customers it makes features such as wifi become increasingly more important.

All, I just got a call from best buy. I have my appt set-up for this friday at 10:45AM.

My co-worker and I will be at my Verizon Corp store Friday morning. I'm hoping to get there for 6:30-7am when they open at 8am. I just don't know if he's up for it =/.

If all goes well, we'll be walking out with 3 Storms and will be chilling at my house most of the day playing with them! If I do manage to snag one...I mean WHEN I get one on Friday, I will be sure to post pictures and videos of certain aspects by Saturday at the latest.

2 sides huh, ok, well heres side number 2 for you, the storm, i.e. phone listed in the title to this thread is for verizon and vodaphone, neither of which have wifi, rogers, as you said will not carry the "storm" as you call it, rogers is carrying the thunder, which is close, but not the same phone as the thunder, and could possibly have wifi, i dont know, nor do i really care

but i digress, your reasoning is somewhat passable, what isnt is the arguments that most are throwing around for "needing" wifi, wifi is not needed on verizons network, it is faster than AT&T's (yes it is, deal with it) based on speed tests of the original iphone (capped out at 128kbs) show that the iphone3g should go (as the ads say) twice as fast, or a whopping 256kbs, wow, thats fast, oh wait, no its not, my verizon curve has speed tested upwards of 1.5mbs
