black spray paint?

Does anyone know where I can get them for my dvd drives? They are beige and my case is black :p
 
Wal-mart, Lowes, Home Depot, any local autoparts store, any local hobby store.....

Krylon makes a plastic paint called Fusion, some folks love it other hate, i'm personally in the latter. Your better off with a good primer, and whatever brand of paint you end up using. I prefer Dupli-color and Rustoleum.

No need to sand the face plates of your drives, just pop them off, give them a good scrub with some dish soap, rinse several times and allow to throughly dry. mask off (or remove) the little clear piece of plastic that shows drive activity. Shoot it with a couple coats of primer, allow to dry (24 hours is best), then apply multiple light coats of color. Again allow to dry for 24 hours. Keep in mind just because its dry to the touch does not mean its not tacky, if you do not allow the paint to throughly dry the drive the tray cover can stick to the face plate.

Nope, I don't generally ever go into homedepot or any other hardware stores.

something else you might want to consider is vinyl dye.

a lot of people swear by it.

If you check the FAQ section of the forum there should be a link to some guides on how to properly use it as well.
 
check for the flat black colors too unless your case is glossy plastic

flat spray paint i think is easier to work with than glossy
 
I recently used Fusion by Krylon to paint a case. Now I did not paint my DVD drives, because they are black allready, how ever I did paint a Thermaltake Xasier Black. It was silver. I found that they best way to prepair the plastic front panel was to lightly sand it and remove all the "gloss" I then cleaned it with some rubbing alcohol and let that dry off. I primered the plasic using a good quality automotive primer that I picked up at checker or autozone and did the finish painting with Black Fusion by Kylon, I used the semigloss variety. You can pick that up at Wal-Mart, about 3 $ a can. Remember to sand lightly between coats and shoot your project with several light coats rather that 1 heavy one.
 
Some good black Vinyl dye is 10000000000x better than paint for doing anything plastic.

That stuff is almost impossible to scratch off a plastic surface, as it... *drumroll* dyes it ;)
 
Dyed my Plexwriter black & it matches my case better than the black NEC drive.

A good application of dye will last a good while. Used spray dye to color the seats
in my '69 GTO black back in 1992. They still look good.

Yep :) Dye is also great for painting the wires in your case, so they're all the same colour ;)

Ack! That offends every fiber of my electrician-in-training being... I'm gonna come wire your house with all black wires too. :D

That too. Another option for wires is liquid electrical tape. A friend coated all his wires with that, looks good. Only thing is, that stuff puts out HELLA fumes. :eek:
 
i want to spraypaint mine blue, what happens if u get paint inside the cd drive?
and can u give it kind of a shiny mettalic look?
 
I used Krylon's Fusion "Satin" Black, the Satin type of spray is super matte and I painted my old 80's boombox stereo with it, it looks wicked deep and black.

I suggest Krylon, their paint is great.

You did taken the face plate off right? The faceplate and the tray cover are separate pieces, or should be.

Open the drive, the tray cover slides off, then pop the face plate off, paint, allow to dry, reassemble.
 
Yep, I removed the face plate, lost patience and assembled it, now it's one piece. I am going to try and knife around the edges to see if it will work. BTW I used the Krylon fusion paint and it's awesome.
