Black Screen in win2k setup??

First the Hardware im working with:

kt7a Via chipset board
kt7-raid

1.0ghz tbird
1.3ghz tbird

15gb seagate drive
20gb IBM Death star
10gb Seagate

2 random cdroms

2 different copies of win2k(I know both work on other machines)

Geforce 4 4200 128mb




So far with 2 separate motherboards, 2 different CPU's, 3 hard drives and 2 cd-roms, I have been unable to get Windows 2000 professional to get past "Setup is starting windows 2000". It goes through all the driver setups. Right after that it goes black, the monitor stays on like its getting a signal, but thats it.

I feel like im missing something here thats simple..
 
I have a KT-133 board - a Tyan Trinity (Think thats the same type - not sure).

Same thing.

Gets to video card initialising and *boom* black screen.

It only happened after I upgraded to the latest Bios version tho, so previous bios versions might help.

I just installed WinXP and be done with it myself, it wasnt worth the hassle.

I had a GeForce 4 4800SE 128MB so it might be a GFX card problem, try switching that if you have no luck elsewhere
 
I forgot to mention ive tried several different memory modules as well, ones that worked fine in other pcs, but not this one.

I dont have the money atm to buy another xp copy, so I just went with what I have currently on hand. 2000.


Any other ideas?

Edited to add.. im going to try another video card to see if that helps.. only thing I havent done yet.
 
Well I tried another video card, no luck.

Whats really odd, is I could get redhat 8.0 to start installing just fine... well until it got to the second disk, which mine seems to be bad.

Im taking this as an opportunity to grab 9.0 and try that when I get home.
 
Well.. im confused.

Redhat 9.0 installed perfectly.

Its been running with no hitches what so ever.

I wish I knew what win2k didnt like about the machine.
