Black Ice vs MCR...

I've used both. They are very comparable. I would imagine someone on here has done a full out comparison showing how much heat each dissapates etc.
 
Well I asked because as all things come you get one person that says one thing and another that say the opposite so I try to see what the majority of posters think and base my opinion on that... on "unnamed forum" they called the Black Ice series trash compared to the MCR's
 
That's because you didn't specify which Black Ice you are talking about. They have a few versions like Black Ice Pro, Stealth and GT Xtreme.
 
ive used a few diff rads.... the double 120 black ice pro and double 120 swiftech had almost the same performance for me.

then ive tried a triple 120 black ie pro and triple 120 swiftech, the swiftech was a little bit better.

i dont know why people talk shit on black ice pro rads they offer excellent performance for the money. im using a black ice micro single 80mm on a e2180 @3ghz in this other rig right now and i idle between high 20's to low 30's, load is about 50. im gonna add another one soon but to be honest i cant fault them.
 
From what Im being told now... the Black Ice IS the best but at the cost of major fan noise because of being so restrictive they require higher CFM fans... Im being told to get Thermochill rads which are ranked up there with the Black Ice but can use much lower CFM fans.

thats true.... but look how much extra they cost.. at the end of the day all of the above rads are good just get whatever you're comfortable spending. for me i dont give a shit about noise as long as its quiet noise and not like a rocket is about to take off when you power up.
 
Well my money would be on the Thermochill then because from what Im hearing and seeing is that Thermochills cost half the amount and quieter with lower CFM fans... I have to see if I can get them.
 
Thermochills are not cheap...The Swiftech MCR series is about half the price.
 
Thermochill is the best but costs and arm and a leg, MCR is the second best without loud fans, Black Ice comes in third. However with "better" fans that run louder, the BI can beat the MCR.

Other then the king of radiators (Thermochill), fans are going to have a lot to do with your results.

Since most water cooling users want noise reduction as well, they are going to push for the MCR series.

/Big/ difference there. Also, you don't want Thermaltake watercooling stuff -- they like to mix metals, and that's very bad practice.

Thermochills are usually about 3x the cost of a comparably sized Swiftech or Black Ice.
 
MCR series are designed for low CFM fans, while the BI GTS can handle higher CFM fans better.
 
With Low Speed Fans:
Thermochill (1.25) > Black Ice GTX (1.2) > MCR (1.05) > Black Ice Pro(1.00) > Black Ice GTS (0.9)

Ranking of radiators IMO, with relative performance figures in percentage form.
 
However, the GTS is very restrictive so it doesn't flow well. The Thermochill is the king on the flowrate side because it flow twice as more as the MCR. The GTS is pretty restrictive due to the small tubing.
 
Yeah, on Xtreme-Systems there is that one user that goes around saying how the Apogee is the worst block ever, even worst than a Whitewater (couldn't be more wrong) and how awesome the Storm is. He also goes around fanboying the MCR series.

Not going to say his name. I for one, think that if you want to save some money just buy a BIP II instead of an MCR 220, they're very comparable.
 
I dont care about saving... I want the best but also want as silent as possible without sacraficing performance

If that's the case, then you definitely want the Thermochill PA series. If you're also planning on a second loop for the chipset or something, then the less expensive MCR makes a great choice, too.
