Does anyone have a good source for black DVD-RW bezels to replace the white one on my Sony DVD writer? I've discovered that it is more or less a Lite-On copy, but I can't find any US companies that just sell the bezel to go along with the Antec 900 case that is on its way from NewEgg. Sony doesn't list any parts on their website, though I will try contacting them by e-mail and see if they have them for a reasonable price.
 
Ran into the same problem with a Lite-On drive, it only came with a beige bezel. Nearly every bezel out there will pop off; grab you some black spray paint and go crazy.
 
Word, black paint.

Or just but a new one - damn things are $30 now, even for SATA.

While this is totally ghetto, I have done it for years and no one ever notices. Black Sharpie marker....
 
Thats how my old drives were done, rubs off after use though.

Painting them is easy.
 
Black Vinyl Dye (from any car part store) will dye the plastic black. It's also the most useful paint you can have in your house. You can dye wires to make them all black, and just about anything plastic.

This is what you want. :)
 
I've used spray paint with black Sharpie as touch-up (from scuffs you get while installing it, etc.).

I'm actually considering painting my whole drives now. I painted the inside of my case black (looks really, really nice if you have a window), but now the gray drives stick out. My plan is to tape off anything that shouldn't get paint in it and spray them. I'll let you guys know how that turns out, I might even put up a whole thread for my case since I've done a few other thing to it. Don't look for it anytime soon though; finals are coming up.
 
New Lite-On drives ship with both color bezels. Maybe someone has recently purchased one and needed the white bezel?
 
I had a drive that came with a replacement bezel, so you can change the color.

I painted a bezel once and it didn't go too well. The solvent in common spray paint attacks plastic and made the surface fuzzy even after it dried.

Don't paint it. Use Vinyl Dye. Use it in a VERY well ventilated space though. Stuff reeks. Also - light coats...
 
$1-2 little can of matte black spray paint at Walmart.

Pop covers off
pop little clear plastic light pipes out
throw some newspapers down
light sweeping sprays across it, covering all angles, until all black.
let dry entirely, overnight or something.
reassemble
 
Paint or Vinyl paint. Either way. That or a new drive. I'm replacing out my drives because I finally decided it's time to get rid of a 4x DVDRW drive from Sony. lol

(It wasn't in my main rig)
 
I've painted many drive face plates to co with different cases and it works well. I suggest primer for plastics before painting to avoid the "fuzzy" issue mentioned earlier...thin even coats are the key...if you want to paint the whole drive I REALLY suggest you disassemble the drive first. usually 4 or six screws...the fumes from the spray WILL get inside even if you tape things...get some on the diode and your drive will be useless...
