black anodized SI-97

k wasnt sure, when you said you were searching for a 7700-cu, cu means copper so i thought maybe thats what it was
 
Are you sure that's black anodizing? It could just be the lighting in the picture.
 
Damn! that is extremely sweet, It is my understanding that black is the best color for a heatsink to be for scientific reasons I cant think of right now. I would be really interested to see how a black anodized alum sink does against a copper one. I bet the margin between the two is a bit smaller.

i would think that anodization would reduce the heat transfer from the metal to air somewhat..

Actually, that would be incorrect.

Scientifically, the color black is the absence of all light, while the "color" white is made up of all colors in the spectrum. Black absorbs light, which is why black objects (i.e., a car) tend to heat up on a sunny day, whereas white reflects light, keeping things cooler to a certain degree.

The color of a heatsink would likely be irrelevant in a case, as there isn't much light to absorb. If it were relevant though, black would be a bad color for a heatsink, as it would absorb heat from its surroundings more than other colors, keeping it hotter.

do a search, this is a very old topic that we had a few years back when we were wondering what color was best for your radiator to be for a watercooling setup. if you look at all automotive radiators in cars. their all black. i forget exactly why, but black is the best color for heat dissipation devices
 
It sounds bogus to me. The probable reason car radiators are black is so they cant be seen when looking through the grill and thus make the grill stand out more. It also probably has to do with history and that is the way it was always done. To say that the color a radiator is affects its heat dissipation is completely ridiculous. I would have to hear some very compelling argument to even begin to consider it.

I would love to hear it though...

do a search in watercooling. but i do remember everyone ended up agree'ing black was best.
 
Black absorbs and loses energy to surroundings fast ... SOOO ... if you were to get a black heatsink .. it would absorb heat from the cpu and lose it to the surroundings faster because the surrounding is colder but the cpu is hotter .. that's why it's better ... if it were white on the other hand it would be the opposite .. so it would lose less and take in less ...

if the surrounding heat on the other hand was hotter than the cpu then having a black heatsink would be pointless ..

Black is only relevant when radiation is a mode of heat transfer. If radiation is a mode of heat transfer then black would be the best color. However, with forced convection ie fans radiation is essentially eliminated as a mode of heat transfer so the color becomes irrelevant. Also, any coating on the metal will add a resistance layer and not aid in heat transfer, even a thin anodizing layer would be a have thermal resistive characteristics. Thus it is best to keep the metal bare without any paint etc. Sandblasting would be the only thing you may want to do to the surface of the metal since it will increase the surface area, hence increasing heat transfer.
