BL2411PT first 24 inch flicker free PWM monitor. Could this be a real game changer for use PWM sensitive users to finally have a LED monitor that works?
I'd feel a lot better about it if it was from a better company than BenQ. The way they seem to market their stuff, I am not even 100% sure it'll be released in N. America (although I expect it will be).
Since marketed towards business, which is smart for a 16:10, there is the chance it has a heavy AG coating due to bright office lights/cubicle workers. But we'll find out eventually.
It looks like LG IPS panel, which is very odd for BenQ. Unless its completely new and weird, which I doubt. They never used LG panels before afaik. They usually only use AUO panels. A few CMI panels, though.
In short:
- semigloss AG coating like Samsung PLS or Dell U2713HM (or NEC EA244WMi)
- fast response times (OverDrive can be turned off), almost zero input lag
- accurate color settings (sRGB)
- little bit higher min. brightness (above 80 cd/m2)
Note: It seems like Prad.de had older sample/revision (BL2411PT in my review was directly from e-shop) with higher contrast ratio traded for unaccurate colors.
Anyone have any experience with this monitor? I've been considering getting the Dell U2412m for a while but noticed recently this BenQ model which has no PWM LED lighting. I find myself quite sensitive to flicker so think that will be a bonus.
There really doesn't seem to be much info about it though. The Dell looks nicer, IMO but the backlight is saying me towards the BenQ.
Nice review, ufoncz! Just one tiny suggestion: the review might benefit from just a little bit more comments after some of the tests. Like, for instance, what you thought of the black level results on this page. You just have the chart but didn't say anything. But I'm just nitpicking, this is a minor thing.
Anyway, I have been meaning to ask you something. Why is it that, on the Viewing Angles page, why do the colors (when viewed straight on, no angle) on some IPS and other types of monitors look worse than TN panels?? I thought the conventional wisdom holds that TN is the worst type of panel, and that pretty much anything else (IPS, VA, etc.) will look better. But, if I look at, for example, the pictures for TN (BenQ XL2420T) vs S-PLS (Samsung S24A850DW) and H-IPS (HP ZR2740w), the TN panel looks much better. For instance, on the very first picture with the house, landscape, and sky, the photo looks just right on the TN panel but the colors are quite dim (I'm not sure how to describe it in words) for the S-PLS and H-IPS. It looks as though the whole scene has been darkened. Maybe as if I'm viewing it through light sunglasses or something, especially the Samsung S-PLS one. Again, I'm only comparing the first picture where the screen is not tilted at all.
Do you agree? Or could it be that it looks like that to me due to my own crappy laptop screen??
I think NCX stated that this model doesn't have a semiglossy/light coating, or at least as light as the NEC EA244WMi/PLS/Dell 2413 monitors. Unless I am getting my models mixed up, the pixel comparisons show that this model has a bit more fuzziness to it.
It is still better than the older heavy AG coated IPS models like the 2412, but not as clear as some other panels -- again, according to NCX and pixel pics.
ufoncz -- did you compare the BenQ with the above models side by side?
The only 1920x1200 IPS/PLS panels with semi-glossy coating under 500$ are the NEC EA244WMi & PWM Free Samsung S24A850D. =DEAD='s NEC had cross-hatching issues.
Yeah... that's interesting. That review definitely says that the BL2411PT panel has a matte surface. Whereas it refers to the NEC's panel as a "half-matte" or "semi-matte". And you can see from those comparison pictures, too. But at least the crystal effect is far less than on the ZR2440W, for example. It's close but you can still see it's more "crystal-y" than the NEC and the Samsung ones. Almost semi-glossy? lol
