Due to my computer acting nutty the last few weeks, I had to reformat. I have three harddrives. For some reason, when I installed Windows, I had to install to my Storage drive, which had nothing on it at the time.

Now, when it was loading the setup, it had wanted to scan my E:\, which has all my music, and my temporary backups. Fine and dandy.

Now Windows and all my apps are set up, and things are good. But now, I have a super bizarre problem.. half my music doesn't work, and sometimes when a song does play, it plays a completely different one. I click on one file, it plays from that file, but it plays some other song on the HDD. Also, all my pictures and such do not display :/

What in the fuck did Windows do to my drive?? It didn't format it.. it didn't install on it, it completed fscked it up! Thank god I back up my music.. but my pictures are likely gone, most of them.

Any idea what happened, and is there a way to recover.. possibly? Thanks!

While I'm not sure exactly what you did, I would advise you to run chkdsk and see if that repairs it at all. I take it you are running Fat32?

The type of file system is RAW. CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives.

This could be because I did a recovery on it, recovered most of my pictures. I just wish I knew what the Windows set up did to it, I never seen that happen before :/

RAW means you are in a world of shit :(
run some recovery software on it, get what you can, and reformat stat!

I cannot believe this.. I'm floored..

All I can say, is thank god I did not format.. I kept putting it off. I did run a recovery program, and got some things, but especially with my pictures, almost everything was corrupt.

I just installed SP2 and some other things, and rebooted. When back in Windows, I checked out the drive once more, *just in case*. Well, EVERYTHING works again.

The MP3's play as they are supposed to, and the pictures work again. This is probably the most bizarre computer problem I've ever had, and I've had many.

Talk about relief, going to back it all up now, hehe. Thanks for the help!

Also be glad you didn't run chkdsk /f on it :D

Glad to hear you got it back for the moment at least. I think we've got another convert on the value of backups ;)

"Also be glad you didn't run chkdsk /f on it"

Yeah really, I'm lucky that that it detected it as RAW and couldn't run. Man, wierd.

Also, I do regularly back up, however for some reason, my e-mail backup didn't work, or it was an old back up, which I can't understand. I backed it up two weeks ago. Now I know to make sure at least.

Backup from now on, I will. -Yoda
