Hi everyone, Been thinking of doing a new PC build for quite some time now, I'm trying to decide if i should bite the bullet & get the i 4930k + asus rampage iv black edition + r9 290's in cf with ddr3 ram or wait & grab a 5930k + ddr4 + r9 390x's with the x99 board.. problem is i've got no idea when any of this stuff is coming out.. & my x58 is slowlying dying.. :/ Any info on the dates these products will hit store shelves & or advice if i should wait or not would be very helpful. Cheers. :D

I guess the biggest question is what do you have now??

i7 920@3ghz
12gb's 1600mhz ram
Two sapphire 7870's stacked on top of each other like pancakes so they get hot as hell! then just basic 1.5tb storage, 120gb ssd 750w evga psu in a cooler master SE case.
With a x58 gigabyte motherboard.

I'd say wait.

The rumor mill it churning and people have the 390x coming out before the end of the year and there is speculation that it could be up to 40% faster (Hard to believe though).
The 290x has also already been out for 9 months.

Then you have the new tech with the 5930k coming out also with features like 8 cores and ddr4 support.

Finally, your system can still handle most titles pretty decently.

You don't seem to upgrade often, so I'd say give it to the end of the year.

The 5930K is the medium E cpu with only six cores right?
& have you got any rough idea what kind of prices i'd be looking at for these products compared to current gens?

this X58 setup is one of the best investments I have ever made

what, exactly, is "slowly dying" in your system OP?

I can't get the cpu higher then 3ghz without it crashing & both my gpu's are stacked on top of each other like panckes.. cpu cooler was a corsair h50.. replaced it with a hyper 212 & same results. (End result = two loud & hot gpu's while gaming.. :/)

try one of the cheap ebay server hex cores and see if it will clock better

I'd dink with it for now and wait, as others have said, the current stuff has been out for a while already.

I could take a 7870 out lose about 30 fps but have a quiet & less hot system.. I'm just wondering what the prices of the new stuff is going to set me back. ddr4 might be abit $$$ish ;o

You right, I was thinking 5960k

Most likely same prices for most parts like the cpu and MoBo; however, the jump to DDR4 ram will cost you. Also, the 290x can be had for some pretty good deals now. And as unfortunate as it is, if the 390x is a great mining card, expect bloated prices and low availability as with the 290x. The rumors about the manufacturing process at the new chip size is also like to slow the availability of the cards if they are true.

mmm Hopeffully they have a Asus rampage IV black edition x99 board..
& What kind of prices are we talking about for ddr4.. like $100 more per 8gb or?

not so sure mining will really distort card prices going forward, the scrypt ASICs are hitting the network now and alt ROI is really bad already http://www.coindesk.com/litecoin-price-decouples-bitcoin-slump-continues/

The advent of powerful scrypt ASIC miners has raised additional concerns in the litecoin community. The first scrypt ASICs are now starting to appear and the biggest names in the industry are set to join the fray.

KnCMiner’s Titan is a good example. The chip has already taped out and the first batch is expected to ship sometime in the third quarter of this year.

The Titan can deliver up to 400MH/s, which means it is as powerful as 400 high-end Radeon GPUs (graphic processor units) of the sort found in gaming PCs. Alpha Technology is promising 250MH/s out of its Viper scrypt miner.

So safe to say.. most people buying a 390x will use it for gaming & side mining? not like hardcore mining.. which going off those numbers in the thing you posted above would seem quite silly to try & mine with gaming gpu's instead of buying a legit mining rig.?

Don't give Intel money for muddling along without any major performance improvements since Nehalem. They're holding out on you, keeping prices high, and cutting costs to boot. When they provide a worthy upgrade (8 cores, 5 GHz average OC, soldered IHS, sub-$500), reward them with your dollars.

x5660 as a minimum, but as jojo said x5670 or x5675 for higher clocks, you can get a x5680 or 90 but more money for not much gain, an alternative would be the L5640 - lower power but you can get them to decent clocks on the right mobo
