Bite or Wait? (HD 7850)

That is a good price.... but the gtx 650-660-ish cards are rumored to be coming this month or next. The should be in direct competition to the 7850-7870 performance and price-wise. This is of course a guess, but if you wait a month you could save 10-20 bucks.

My advice is jump on this deal now but know new cards are coming, things will be a little cheaper soon, but by buying now you have an extra month or so to enjoy your new card. Its pretty much ALWAYS like this with computer parts, especially video cards. There will always be something faster and/or cheaper just around the corner. This is a good deal now so just go with it unless you specifically like nVidia cards better. Even if they drop in price its still a great card for the money so no need for buyers remorse.
 
This is hard to pass up and they go OOS fast and stay OOS. At this price, they may go fast. I would jump all over this.

I went with the 7870 TwinFrozr and I love it, don't think twice for $210 AR.

No need for that if you overclock the 7850. My MSI Twin Frozr 7850 did 1140/6000MHz at stock voltage. That's well above a stock 7870 and with more voltage, a 7850 will go as high as 1250-1300MHz. If you need more performance than a 7850, the next step should be 7950.
 
I usually say don't bother waiting because something newer, faster, better and cheaper is ALWAYS due out right around the corner. If you need a new GPU now, get one. However if you don't, then might as well wait. I would love a new GPU but mine is getting the job done so I'm waiting til prices come down on the upper end 7000 cards as the 8000 cards get closer.
 
Poor idea to wait for the 660 to drop, there is no word on if/when we are getting these things. I waited as long as I could and ended up getting a 7850 DCII. Couldnt be happier.

Where is this rumored? I've heard Q3 '12...

And to the OP... the 7850 and 7870 are really dogs even at that pricepoint. There was a deal about 3-4 weeks ago for a 7950 at around 300 bucks... It's worth waiting if you ask me. I still remember getting my 4890 for $170... now getting such a comparable card will set you back $500; it's stupid that the market continues to support this price structure, with old inventory making up the lowend/midrange.

Do you even have any idea of what you'e talking about? A 7850 will smoke a 4890 and if you paid $170 for a 4890 it was already outdated or it was used. 4870's were more than that new. An MSI 7850 for $210 with a non-reference cooler is a SMOKING deal.
 
If you are shopping for deals and looking to gain performance through overclocks the non-reference 7850s and 7950s are the ones to watch. If that is what you're looking for and your budget is $200 then this card is a good fit. Another deal might come along in 3 weeks but who knows. Maybe neweggbusiness will do another 10% coupon by then? Those sometimes work out better than rebates... especially with the 7950s.

I personally would have jumped on this deal 2 weeks ago but I made the decision to go the 7950 route since I will start with an entry eyefinity build.
 
HD7850 is nice, but i'd honestly hold out for another week or so. Just 2 days ago I saw the XFX black edition HD7970 (not double D) go for sale for $409 (no rebate/promo). and it suddenly went back up to $440.

i'm expecting another rather decent price cut on all AMD 7000 series gpu products within the end of july
 
Again, why do people expect price cuts on the 7850, they aren't getting them! They get great deals from time to time but without competition $210 on one of THE VERY BEST OEM versions of the 7850 is amazing.

I got my DCII for $215, I was waiting for the MSI PE edition but that mother fucker never came in stock! :mad:

The card does 1140 on the core easy, when I have more time I'll really try to press it. So far its fun and the second fan seems almost 100% useless since the section of the heatsink doesn't even get warm during gaming.
 
USD 210 after rebate for a MSI HD 7850 Twin Frozr is an amazing deal. You can't ask for more.

As for GTX 660 info you can find it here. You can expect a launch next month.

There is going to be a GK104 based GTX 660 Ti and a GK106 based GTX 660. the GTX 660 Ti is going to be around USD 300. the GTX 660 is expected around USD 200 - 250. GK106 specs are mostly - 768 CUDA cores, 2 GPC, 4 SMX, 192 bit memory. I don't think the GK106 is going to beat the HD 7850.

I don't know what better you are expecting price wise on HD 7850. grab the deal.
