Bitcoin Discussion Thread Part 2

i know bitcoin is tied to core rather than memory---but litecoin is best with a certain ratio?

Wow.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, as long as you're not the one left holding the bag.

If you're having heat/fitment issues you might have to ghettorig something like this using these.

If your second card is not working without a monitor you need a VGA dummy plug.

Hey guys what's going on in this threa....oh shit coins are nearly 150 euros.

So the question is: Is this the work of speculation or is there really new money behind this surge? If you know the answer you have won, advance to go and collect your reward.

Hell i'm in. Time to buy some GPUs. Screw the ASICS. heh

Edit: Difficulty or not, I think Europe is gonna make sure these BTCs keep their value.

Cypriot money

P.S: I just launched the client and I'd totally forgotten I had some leftover bitcents lol

That's $100 just sitting there waiting to pay for at least a month worth of mining electricity. Hmm I wonder what will I do.

Is there a guide as to what the best miner/settings are for a returning miner such as myself? is it still the wild west when it comes to custom kernels? or have things become more sane since then? I read something about Stratum and other things that are new to me.

Old school people might remember my mini-guide posts keeping people updated here when I was actively mining and was well versed in the lingo. I guess what I'm really asking is for someone with experience to fill in the gaps since the time I stopped mining (September 2011) to now. In other words, halp. :D

P.S: As far as pool setup goes I'm going back to BTC Guild (I have a small balance there as well) so no need to cover that.

Dude lol, no. I appreciate the effort but that's just a bragging chart that is not really kept up to date. I know this 'cause I was one or THE first people to link that here (some of the 6970 entries there I wrote them to the wiki myself lol). What I need is a mini guide to setup guiminer/cgminer/diablominer or whatever miner is the more popular and established today.

Or were you trolling me linking to the Nvidia section of the comparison chart? If so, you got me :p

Naw i wasn't tryin' to troll ya. I promise :D

I'm in your same boat though. However, i'm looking at the LTC stuff right now, looks extremely promising.

Honestly it's still pretty straight forward. Just grab Guiminer if you don't feel like dealing with scripts/command line. If you've got 7series then grab cgminer and point guiminer at it, else just go off of poclbm

I am running two 6970 at 1GHz on a Seasonic 650w gold. Only when the second card is running does the fan even turn on.

L O L

Lorien was the guy that helped me get sorted out back in the day

Nice...the fan on my PSUs kick on pretty quick. Three 6970s have the fan blasting on my 1000w before it finally blew out and even now on my 1350w PSU, the fan kicks in pretty quick but I don't think its running at its max.

Does anyone know how long it takes Mt.Gox to show funds in your account after you transfer them? I just transferred ~3 BTC about 30 minutes ago and it's not showing in my account.....should I be worried?

Depends on how long it takes the network to confirm your transaction (i.e. add it to the block chain)

fake edit: Holy shit, I still remember this stuff even after nearly 2 years of not mining or having anything to do with bitcoins.

I've had it take a few hours, so no don't worry too much

Thanks much guys! I am so tempted to sell them, but they literally go up ~$10/day so I figured I'd put them in my Mt.Gox account so when I do decide to sell they are already there.

I really wonder what will happen if and when Butterflylabs ever ships their ASIC line of products. Should raise the difficulty substantially, as well as make gpu mining completely unprofitable. But they keep delaying, shits driving me mad.

well actually with their lowered expected returns and Avalon already in full steam, I'd say it'd be only an incremental jump as opposed to the last few months.

There is absolutely no reason for them to actually ship, as opposed to mine themselves, on any working product they have.

Yeah, no reason, except for that people have paid them money for a product that they have missed their deadline by 6 months and counting.

Is there a different way to purchase LTC/BTC rather than going through shady-ass Russian money ewallet sites and having to upload images of passports and drivers licenses to 'verify' accounts? I may be interested in purchasing some coinage but I'm not going to divulge my information to who-knows-what

Difficulty on litecoins just went up. From 205 to 234. Makes about 13% difference in how much you mine per day.

I am about to get my 2nd 7950 tomorrow. Never used SLI or crossfire before. This is my current cgminer setting.

cgminer --scrypt -o http://coinotron.com:8322 -u worker -p 1 --thread-concurrency 24576 --shaders 1792 --intensity 13 --worksize 256 -g 1

What should I do to get the 2nd car going? Can I run them independently?

I would advise against Crossfire. Complexity tends to create issues.

However:
1) Register a fresh worker on your pool's website
2) Set the new card up with cgminer settings as you did the first as a new worker utilizing the username/pw that you just made for it on the website

All ive ever used to mine is tri-fired 6970s and ive never had an issue. Though I guess im an exception to the rule since ive read a few threads of people having issues with it.

At least the difficulty didn't go up to the 244 that it was predicting about 2-3 hours prior to it kicking in. The value of litecoin still needs to go up proportionately...I know that's wishful thinking though...

yep, as someone said, run them independant as a new worker.

Also, there is an art to dialing in setting for max hash. You might try a lower thread concurrency to see what happens.. I get about 20kh/s more when I run 8192 vs something much higher.
