Bitcoin Discussion Thread Part 2

I'll swap one of my 5870's over tonight just to se how it does.

yeah seems to be working now, the rate of finding blocks on this site seems incredibly slow judging by the pool stats, needs more users

Yes, with current hashrate it's slow, just larger payouts. However, the payout over the past two weeks was about 50% better than other pools due to a lucky short round. The payout will seem slow until we get around ~100gh

As soon as I get my 6970 installed and hashing I'll probably switch over. Right now I've only got like 0.3 BTC over at BTCGuild.

Id love to join but I cant access the page from work
*sad panda*

Damn you fortiguard, Damn you!

Let me know how to help get around it and I'll do what I can ;)

And thank you everyone for the hashes!

I should have another 1.2-1.5gh of my own online soon.... have a quad 6870 setup on the way.

if a bunch of people from [H] join and you get enough hash for a few blocks a day i'll move my 3ghs over.

I think it's around 80gh to see a block a day..... that said the payout should be the close to the same in the long run. Variance is an issue on any pool, it's just more sporadic on the small ones. In our case, we've been lucky since relaunch... (well, not the first round, but the second more than made up for it).

I get the steady stream of payout.... perhaps you could be nice and put me on as a failover in the mean time ;)

Oh, and I forgot to mention, the next 2 block finders get 2btc each from my wallet!

I've been thinking about getting rid of my last 5830, Maybe trade it for a nice 460 or something. It would be more useful to me, though the eyefinity does intrigue me.

Hello [H] miners,

Not sure why I haven't posted this here before now....
If you want a pool run by a [H] forum member, as well as the creator of the pool frontend:

Join me at https://simplecoin.us

If you don't mind the mere 220Mh/s then i'll join.

Now for some actual new tweaks:

Forgive my ignorance, as I'm using GUIMiner and not a CLI.

Copied the new teak into .../kernal/phatk in place of original files.
Start up GUI miner and select the Phoenix instance? I did that, along with suggested flags and I still can't approach my instance of OpenCL.

I could be wrong but I thought all of the new 6950s were laser cut to prevent unlocking. You may have better luck buying a used one.

I have one of the 6950's with the Dual Bios, I should not have an issue unlocking it will I?

It's a matter of luck now.If you get luck then you'll pick the one from the old batch which wasn't laser-burned.

Question for tsd:I switched to your pool and got consistent 215-220Mh/s.Why on the site,it showed my hashrate at only 193Mh/s?

The site hashrate is based on number of shares submitted in the past 10 minutes. It will fluctuate.

As far as the untrusted.... I've never seen that, and I've never had issue with the ssl cert before...

Don't mind the cert,i skipped it anyway. :D

Also the ratio of stale/share is quite high for me.

Hmmm, I've heard that from a few other others. I have a current stale count of 0 on my main miner and a ratio close to .0001% on my wired machines. I'm in Nashville,TN, pool server is in Los Angeles, CA, and I run hashkill on 2 boxes and guiminer/poclbm on my daughters win7 box.

Where are you located? ISP? preferred miner?

UPDATE: Updated pushpool to v5.1, was running a git build, might help with stales.

Say, amounth of hashing a worker does, how do we know, how much of work is done in bitcoin value wise ?

I'm in South East Asia :D

Successfully unlocked my extra shaders, hash rate jumped from 370 to 405 with no change in clock speed.
Good for you man.:D

I have been on BTC Guild, my GUIMiner reports 860, the pool reports 800-830 I just figured there was some duplication of shares or maybe corrupted (overoverclocked?) shares...was wondering about it. Anyway, I don't think it is specific to the [H]pool.

I will be checking out this new pool, been hoping someone would start one.

/edit good grief, the guild has had TWO 4 hour blocks in the last day...badluckathon

Just updated the pushpool to include some patches which should help with stales. Sorry for the blip.

BTC Guild is going to be implementing mining teams which sounds very interesting, also automatic payouts which is the main thing I miss since switching from Slush's pool.

Small change to the website interface. Moved the "quick stats" box from the upper right of the page and created a statistics bar fixed to the top.

For now its just pool stats. I have the following 3 priorities right now:

1) Move the webserver [in about 9 hours] *This already happened*
2) Automatic Payouts
3) Replace US West's load balancer with the setup used on US Central [next weekend]
4) Mining teams (more info on this later)
5) AJAX option for stats bar at top/personal stats.
Another exciting tidbit. Meze Grill in Manhattan was the first brick and mortar place to accept bitcoins as payment form. They have now become the first brick and mortar place to buy and sell bitcoins for cash. Slowly but surely things are taking shape.

What are Mining Teams?
Are they breaking the pool down into smaller power groups or something?

Up to 650 Mhash/s, added a 5830 to my system. I think it's time to diversify, my poor system is my daily driver, virtual machine host for a ZFS Napp-it system (6tb), and my gaming PC. I now know what initial proceeds are going to.

that would make no sense, the whole advantage of the pool is in numbers, I'm guessing it will just be an internal record keeping for status...maybe with some prize for most blocks found or most shares computed for the pool

He hasn't given details about it but I'm hoping that's it. There could be special bonuses if a team finds a block. We could have all the [H] miners consolidate there and still enjoy all the other benefits of the pool like 0% fee, long polling, continual server upgrades, low stales, etc. etc. and virtually none of the drawbacks of a small pool.

That would be awesome. I'm game

Who wants to help me understand this chart? Curse my family for regularly using their machines! That's six 5770s, two 6950s, and one 5870.

I don't know how stales or shares work really. I'll google it unless any of you have a quick answer.

After each time a block is found, the pool resets to 0 shares. The pool then dolls out shares based on each worker's hashrate versus the entire pool's collective hashrate. When a block is found, each worker is awarded with a piece of the block's value in BTC based on their shares versus the total shares awarded. I'm not sure what causes stale shares but I think it has something to do with redundant work which was already performed by another machine. During the processing of each block, it is not known how long it will take or how many shares will be awarded before a block is found, so the value in BTC of each share is calculated after the block is found.

Is this a valid answer?

Clearly you are going to have to take those machines away from them and lock them up in the garage.

The higher load is caused by background scripts. It should scale. Plus I've already got a 2nd sql server online and am constantly working on scalability.

On initial launch I had close to 100GH on a smaller server with no issues..

I may try it out. Have 3.2ghash to donate.

I think the idea of teams is cool if done right. There is another pool that has teams(can't remember the name), but it is pretty much just a big ponsi scheme for the team owner to recruit members so he can get a bonus.

Any bonus' awarded to a team should be equally distributed to each member based on the # of shares they have in the block.

Hmmm, that's not a bad idea...

I didn't care for the triplemining teams idea.

What if a pool (mine for example) offered to award the transaction fees to the block finder. Unless they are in a team, at which point it's split by the team.

So, If I threw a dedicated rig together with 4 overclocked 5870's running 24/7 what kind of monthly gross & net would that return? My electricity rate rounded to .12 kWh.

Assuming you have all that hardware already(meaning $0 initial cost) and the current rate of $13.95 holds through the next 30 days and also ignoring difficulty increases, you're looking at ~$430 gross and ~$340 net after energy costs.

P.S: I also assumed your OC'd 5870s would be doing 425MHash/s each so 1.7Ghash/s total

Damn, next difficulty is estimated to be about a 14% increase. Hard to believe people are still bringing that much more hardware online.
