I was just thinking... azureus has a dht layer now that shares tracker information with other azureus clients... its really cool I was able to download a rather large file and from start to finish the tracker was down. I also hear that bit comet has a simliar method of communicating with other bit comet clients. And I also heard that the official client either has it now or will have it soon. Now shouldn't someone make some standards for this so they can all work together on the same distributed network? Wouldn't the result be way better? Maybe this is what bit torrent 2 would be I dunno. I didn't think that dht would work this well but after seeing it first hand... if all clients could communicate cross-client like this, there wouldn't even be a need for traditional trackers, which has been a big weakness of bit torrent up till now.
