Ive decided to make a real thread for this as itll be easier for people to see...

are there any bios modders in these forums?

if so, i have found that after updating to the latest bios for my TForce 6100-939, I can't lower my CPU multiplier below the normal multiplier level. I have also found that my HTT setting will only go to 4x or 5x and setting it to 3x, 2x, or 1x will revert back to 4.

If there is anyone on these forums that could fix this, could you help a guy out

Prior to bios flash (I can't revert as, surprisingly, my old bios file is corrupt)
A64 3000+ E6 Venice @ 2.72GHz @ 1.518V @ 8x Multip.
340MHz HTT/278MHz dram @ 5:4 ratio 2.5-4-3-6

Now:
A64 3000+ E6 Venice @ 2.64GHz @ 1.442V @ 9x Multip.
294MHz HTT/240.5MHz dram @ 5:4 ratio 2.5-4-3-6
(note: the HTT is running at 2352 as verified by CBI and Everest... kinda sorta having problems here)

As you can see, I'm taking a huge performance hit and running the HTT way way out of spec, if anyone can help please do.

***EDIT*** I have tried flashing the bios using both the windows tforce bios flasher and a bootable cd... neither resolved the problem and I am still stuck at 2352 HTT...

god floppy drives and bios' are the biggest pains in the... to deal with
 
Go back to the old BIOS:

If Biostar disabled access to the lower multipliers, then it will take more than some simple tweaks to get it back. The problem is the few people who have enough knowledge to do those kind of tweaks are very likely not going to be interested in making a custom bios for a niche board.

Biostar's K8NHA-M Grand was probably the best 754 option, but it also had no multiplier option. So it's definitely possible they permanently removed it. You can try Clockgen, because I think it works with these boards - that was one way around it, back in the day. Won't help with the HT multi, though. I would just go back to the old bios.
 
well, i reverted back to the bios version prior to the one i was using, and still no luck... this is irksome, why add a feature, call it great, but then do it half-assed?! :mad: :mad:

ps, the multiplier for the cpu was always available to change, it wouldnt "stick" to the new lowered level though...

bah, im stuck with a taskbar that takes 30 seconds to load after windows is fully ready, and I attribute that to the HTT of 2352MHz.

:( so any bios modders that think they could do this, ill ask again, please give me a hand :(

if not, well i guess we will have to wait for biostars latest debacle of their bios...
 
Why would it be the bios if the one that was working before still doesn't work? That makes no sense.

If everything made sense in the computer world, no one would be asking for help. Seeing as how other people have said that their bios upgrade has led to the same problem, I'm inclined to believe its a bios problem and not a problem with a component on the motherboard. Unless of course windows xp, cpu-z, or CBI have an unknown (at least to me) ability to prevent me from changing my multiplier from 9x to 8x or htt multiplier from 4x to 3x... but you never know.
 
sleepeeg3 is right... either 1) your HTT multiplier didn't work before the #20 flash, or 2) if it did indeed work on #12, then your BIOS flash back to #12 didn't flash correctly.

I would keep trying to flash again, different ways, and also try using the clear CMOS jumper for 5 seconds then flash.
 
#12 worked prior to my #20 flash :-/ there must have been a few sets of fubar flashing

time to bust out the olde floppy drive from the year 1990 :eek:
 
You know... this didn't occur to me since my system has been stable for weeks. But, I too have HTT multi locked at x4 even though I have it set at x3 (BIOS #12). And I never really checked this until just now when I ran SiSoft Sandra and saw the HTT speed.

I've had my system set at 289 FSB and SiSoft Sandra reported 1156 HTT (x4)... So Panther5060, you aren't just seeing things...

I was hoping this is what was keeping me from going higher... but I just tried 300 FSB again with CPU multi down to x8, and it runs fine. That's 1200HTT (x4). So I guess HTT is not limiting my o/c.

Anywayz..... Let's all email Biostar about the problem... They were pretty responsive with the 230 FSB problem on the old BIOS last time I emailed them. Hopefully they should be able to address this issue too.

From what I can see, it fixes the HTT multi problem, adds the Smart Fan control, and also adds some more DRAM timing parameters.

I'm running it as I am writing, the HTT thing is definitely fixed now. Biostar is great.
 
I have the same prob but its with my socket 754 ver. I hope they fix it with this bios too soon?
