biostar n68s+ will not overclock

hi all i have the biostar n68s+ with an amd phenom 8250e 1.9ghz tri core
the problem i have is that everytimne i adjust the cpu frequency it does absolutely nothing my clock speed stays the same i have checked it in control panel> system. and also used cpuz still no luck it is deffinately saving the new value as when i re-enter the bios it is set at the value i left it at. it is currently running 9.5x200 and the multiplier is locked i have increased in intervals of 1mhz up to 235mhz and nothing at all happend. thanks in advance
 
Have you tried getting amd overdrive and using that? I don't know if your cpu is supported
 
yeah i tried amd overdrive and many other oc software but none actually work and amd overdrive isnt supported. thinking maybe a new motherboard ive heard asus are good for overclocking and core unleashing is this true and what board would you recommend
 
what is your budget, and what is your current system build, like psu, graphics, etc.

The ASUS M4A785-M is a reliable board, its compatible with ALL Amd processors and it has core unleashing. I've had an athlon x2 6000+ (am2) and athlon II x3 2.9ghz (am3 and overclocked to 3.8ghz) and the 965be all in it and it overclocks like a champ. It also has core unleashing and asus quality. The onboard gpu can also play wow when overclocked maxed out. I used that board to build a silent htpc for my girl.

If you don't like asus, the GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H is based on the same chipset.

These mobos should work great as a replacement, b/c I assume you are gonna use the same cpu, ram, psu, etc. So you dont have to spring for new ddr3 ram and such.
 
well depending on how much the board is i may go ddr3 as my ram is ddr2 667mhz 2gb and id rather have ddr3 1066/1333. my current system specs are as follows amd phenom 8250e 1.9ghz tri core ram: see above psu: 450w cheapy value thing hdd: seagate barracuda 250gb 7200.10 model. and the biostar n68s+ mobo im running onboard gpu which is the nvidia geforce7025 not the hd vresion. also i wasnt aware that you could overclock your on board graphics if you wouldnt mind explaining how to do that when i get my new board that would be great. thanks for the advice
 
If you wanted to use ddr3 you would need an am3 motherboard and a new am3 processor to go in it, the am2+ processors don't have the ddr3 memory controller built in. At 1333mhz cas 9 you wouldn't notice a difference between it and your old ram. with the asus motherboard I linked in the earlier post, you wouldn't need anything new either, just the gpu would be a noticeable upgrade.

However, if you do want to upgrade you can sell your old cpu on ebay for some cash and use it to buy a new cpu. For example, THIS cpu is a nice c3 revision triple core that can oc a good bit on average. Can even find some cheaper on ebay, etc without a cooler because your current should work as the mounting brackets are the same. This Biostar mobo has the same chipset as the Asus I linked earlier so the gpu is okay. And 2gb of DDR3 1333 ram

Lemme know what your thinking about. And yes on that asus you can overclock the mobos gpu to around 800mhz up from 500 if you increase voltage to 1.35v, give or take. Its not bad, really. But if you want to take full advantage of it I recommend you add another 2gb stick of ram as the gpu also uses the systems memory.
 
yeah i know about the onboard gpu using system memory. and with the setup i have now im hitting max 96-97% cpu usage doing a lot of multitasking and everything is still running smoothly my memory without paging file im hitting 1.31gb so im thinking to add another 1-2gb. about the cpu you recomended if im going to go down that route i have found a nice phenom x4 3.2 which is really good for oc and its around £75 dont know how much tht is in dollars im guessing around 100 but i will deffinately be getting that mobo u recomended 800mhz gpu is brilliant thats better than a radeon hd 4550 or 4570 which is what i was looking at. thanks for the advice
 
YES!!!!! finally done it turns out i had to turn down the ht speed to 1x rather than 5x lol so im running at 2.22ghz from 1.91 not bad however it wont let me go any higher i put it at 234mhz but as soon as i hit 235mhz it goes back to stock settings i think this is maybe to do with the voltages. and also ive heard that im lucky to reach 2.22 most people are getting 2.1 - 2.20 so im guessing this is a good speed
