Bios won't let me overclock? (n00b)

I was looking through the BIOS and there was no place where I could change the FSB speed. There is a part under the "Advanced" tab I believe that lists my processor and speed, but it's in gray and I can't access it. Does my mobo not suppport OC'ing?

Yeah, HP locks their BIOS.

theres software overclocking, but they rarely show real signs of performance

well i can only see one problem with your system... and that is it's Intel... never expect the best from somebody who isnt AMD

If by "Intel" you mean "HP", you're right.

Option A: Get another motherboard. The board in my sig(Encoder) replaced a similar board from a HP system. But YMMV, I would not recommend this board because it does not offer overclocking options via the bios, software is the only way.

Option B: Do nothing. Look at a new computer.

Option C: The thing that really needs an upgrade there is the video card, look at like a 9800Pro.

i work on hp's and compaq's all day every day... they are so slow for some reason, i can never figure out why

I always figured it is because of all the background garbage they load/boot/sneak into the rig before it leaves the factory. I took the time to weed it all out, regedit, and tweak XP services once and thought I noticed a marked improvment...

The computer came with a 120gig 5400RPM HDD and I slaved it for storage and got a 8mb cache 7200 80gig HDD. The computer runs really smooth and there really isn't any point of me OC'ing, but I just desire faster speeds. There really is no sign of this computer being a HP with all the parts I've swapped out. If I should get a new mobo, what would be the best choice for me, thinking of the future as well.

i knew it was a prebuilt... i didnt even click the link or look at it.. and i knew it was... who gets a gig o pc2100, and then an fx5200... and then uses it on a p4b (i know about dividers, but no one gets pc 2100 for their p4b)

Came with 512 and my friend had an extra 512 laying around. Thanks for the worthless comment and being so helpful.
