BIOS woes with SATA HDD....

Ok, here's my equipment:

Abit IC7-MAX3
Intel Pentium IV @ 2.4
1 GIG DDR RAM
WDC WD1200JB 120gig hard drive regular (parallel)
WDC 400gig SATA hard drive
Rev 18 BIOS update (newest)

Problem: SATA hard drive wont detect by the bios or operate in windows UNLESS BIOS is reset AND NOT CHANGED FROM JUMPER RESET

As soon as I enter the bios to tweat some shit, not change anything to do with the hard drive, or even JUST ENTER THE BIOS, something changes, and upon boot, the hard drive is no longer detected.

What is my computer, or what am I doing wrong to make this happen? Suggestions?

It seems like I have to run my computer's bios in fail-safe mode just to get the new hard drive to work, and I'm not allowed to enter my bios

This happens with both my current bios revision and the one from before I flashed (v. 12)

The SATA is currently a secondary storage device while the 120GIG parallel is my main drive.

Hep hep!

I just isntalled a WD 400gig hard drive in my machine and I had some problems. My fix was easy. I just switched the harddrive in the BIOS from "Auto" to "Large". I don't know my way around Abit bioses at all, I'm just hoping there might be something similar. Other than that, your best bet is to call Abit. They would probably know better than anyone else if this is a known problem or if there's a quick setting that might be wrong.

Do you have the drivers loaded for your mobo's SATA / RAID controller? If not load the RAID drivers, even if you're not running RAID. D/L the drivers, and install through Driver Update via Device Manager.

That doesnt help if the BIOS doesnt even see the drives during a POST.

I'd have to agree with calling Abit, this is a weird one....

drivers are installed, but thats just for the windows side of things

the problems lies in the fact that I can only get both drives working when the bios is reset, and I DON'T enter the bios to make any changes.

As soon as I enter the bios, even if I don't change anything, it will fail to detect the SATA drive anymore :(
