Bios upgrade help

I'm want to install Win7 on a new mini-itx board I just bought.The board is Win8 cert but it seems I need a BIOS update to make it work with 7. The problem is I can't get it to boot into DOS so I can flash it. I made a bootable USB and tested it with another comp but it's a no go on the J1900 board. I installed Linux from a USB with no problem.

Not sure where to go from here other then buying Win8 just to update the BIOS then installing Win 7..

You didn't say which motherboard it was, but Googling for "J1900 motherboard" makes me think it's a Gigabyte motherboard. If so, that's all we need to know. Gigabyte motherboards are notorious for requiring the user to practice a well-timed voodoo ritual to boot from a USB stick:

I can boot and install Linux from a usb just cant get it to work with a DOS USB.

Was the DOS USB formatted with FAT32?
