BIOS suddenly stopped seeing the GPU

Ok, so I installed a new cooler on my GTS 240 (a rebadged 9800GT) and now the card is invisible to BIOS. I am able to boot with an old 8500gt I had lying around, but the 9800GT is a no-go. I tried both slots and I am getting the same result. I have double checked the power connection to the card and that looks fine. I installed the 9800gt in the second slot and booted up with the 8500gt into nvflash, but nvflash was only seeing my 8500GT. It might be worth noting that when I installed the cooler, at first it was working, but with really high temps. I realized that I hadn't used the right mounting hardware, and the cooler looked a whole lot more secure once I tried to reinstall the card. This is when I started having the problems that I am having. What should I check next?
