Hey guys,
When I boot up my computer it states this message:

bios rom checksum error
detecting floppy drive A media...
drive A error. system halt

And it doesn't go any farther than that, does anybody know why this is happening. I have looked around and I believe it has to do with the motherboard. Please help.

Sounds like your mobo just took a crap on you... Might try resetting the BIOS and seeing if you can boot. If not, its prolly time to RMA it, imo.

Yeah, if clearing the CMOS doesn't work, your BIOS chip is dead. You should RMA the board. If the board is out of warranty (like if you OC'd it), you can order a new BIOS chip from DFI for about $20.

If I remember correctly, about 2 years ago I ran into a similar problem. It was actually the RAM. So what I did is I took all the RAM out and stick by stick I put one at a time in each DIMM slot. One stick was actually messed up and caused that error. The system ran stable for a long time, then that error appeared when a RAM stick decided to go bad.

Actually, you can also get that same sort of error when your CMOS backup battery starts to become weak and unreliable. Perhaps the freeze being due to a bad setting somewhere that keeps getting reverted. This is rare, but, not as rare as it should be by any means. Testing whether or not this is the problem is really easy. It uses a standard little quarter shaped CR2032, 3-volt battery. You can find these at your local walmart in the watch/jewelry section or in stores such as radioshack.

Don't throw away that board or call them up in a panic just yet. It may well be that the damage is pretty minimal.

the battery , ram settings, the ram itself, the psu volts 12vrail, bios corruption, bad HD, or a bad mb. --could be lots of things

I don't think it could be the HDD as he gets the error before the PC even detects the HDD's.

Hey, it stops at "drive A error", so maybe try disconnecting the floppy drive?
