I have recently been tasked with bringing a computer back from the dead, I am fairly certain the CPU and/or Mobo is screwed but before I start spending cash I thought I would run this past you guys to see if there is anything I have missed.

Last week the PC received a fairly hefty kick to the front - Kid (owner) got killed in Counterstrike to many times, teenage angst got the better of him and since then the machine has been acting up (random reboots)

I have tested all the components in other machine and all are fine, but I dont have the kit to test the motherboard or the CPU (so memory, video, hdd etc etc etc are all fine)

When I got the machine I was handed the CPU (AMD 1300) in a static bag and told that it was burnt out, the CPU had enough thermal paste on it for 20 machines. So if it is burnt out that has hidden the tell tale smell of magic cpu smoke. The CPU has now been cleaned and there is no visible signs of burnt chip (sealant spill etc etc) although the chip cap has some slight damage to the corners.

Now thats the history out of the way, the problem is that the machine wont POST. The mobo has a Phoenix Bios so it should POST on CPU failures so I have checked a few other things :

- There is power to the motherboard, onboard power LED is lit, and all mobo powered fans are running (CPU and Case). Power is carrying through to the power on pins as I can use the screwdriver trick to power the machine without using the main button.

- The kick was received where the speaker is, so I have tried a different speaker, still no post

- Power up without a CPU chip results in no post either

- There is no video regardless

- I have removed the bios battery and retried and still the same

- Also tried jumper resets of the bios and still nothing

So I reckon the mobo is chuffed (and probably the CPU aswell) but as I said earlier, before I splash somebody elses cash I though it would be a good idea to run it passed you guys

EDIT : Would have probably been handy to mention that the motherboard is a Shuttle AK12 (Spacewalker)
