I have an external USB drive (Seagate Free Agent 500GB) connected to a Dell XPS2 Laptop running XP SP2. When I attempt to power on the machine with the USB drive connected, the bios attempts to boot off of the USB drive and the system hangs at a black screen with a blinking cursor, requiring a manual hard reset. The only thing I have specified as bootable in my bios is the internal hard drive, everything else is unchecked, including usb/cd-rom drives.

Help?

Your bios may have a setting called "Boot from other device". You need to make sure that's disabled, and that the only thing set to boot up is your main harddrive.
