Devs focus too much on piracy instead of actual sales. Look at COD 4, has sold over 14 million copies, and is the second most played game online behind half life. Despite that, Treyarch still whined about piracy. Point in fact, there will always be piracy.
Treyarch didn't make CoD4 and most of that 14 million I'm pretty sure is combined Xbox 360 and PS3.
It was a shitty game given how poorly optimized it was and how few people were able to run it on hardware at the time. Despite that, it still sold well over a million copies....didn't stop Cevat whining profusely about piracy though.

As for demigod, yes there might have been a lot of piracy on release, however it is an online orientated game where only legit copies are going to be getting updates. Those pirated copies are going to become useless fairly quickly as long as stardock does a decent job supporting their game with regular patches and freebies.
Sorry crysis was not unoptimized, the fact that no game has come close to its visual fidelilty included warhead. I always find it ironic that for a long time people bitch about no pushing thier hardware and when somedid people bitch that their hardware was being pushed.
So if take your point, is that if i own a store, so long as i make a profit, is shouldn't care if no one else steal my stuff?
The big fear with piracy and its sort of happening with the music industry and is seen in other countries, that piracy can become so ingrained, that piracy itself becomes the accepted pratice. Look at china, look how many legit business get into trouble every time there is a new windows breach, because they are running pirtated copies. you know most of then can afford, but why buy the software if the next guy is just going steal it, and get the nearly the same benefits as you.
Dude the 360 version leads CoD 4 sales by a land slide. More then double the PS3 version and possibly even the PC version combined..Sorry I meant infinity ward. And I doubt that, in the space of 3 weeks COD 4 sold over 320,000 copies on PC in the US alone. It was a top selling game on steam for close to a year, and dominated the PC charts around the world in terms of retail sales.
