Scientists have managed to create a biodegradable computer chip made of cellulose nanofibril, a material made entirely from wood. If the design is incorporated into production, it could reduce the amount of toxic materials presently going into landfills.

The majority of material in a chip is support. We only use less than a couple of micrometers for everything else, Ma says. Now the chips are so safe you can put them in the forest and fungus will degrade it. They become as safe as fertilizer.

So the CNF layer is biodegradable, but they coat it with a layer of epoxy so it won't absorb moisture.

How long does the epoxy layer take to degrade?

This is awesome. Next I hope they make them out of potatoes, so we can eat them after they die and overheat.
