In gaming...

Add another 5770 or another 4GB of RAM? Both are the same cost, around $100 for RAM, $130 for 5770 (used).

Well it depends on what resolution your gaming at and how much eye candy you want.

You should be good at 4 gigs, 8 gigs wont be worth the upgrade unless you do a lot of vm stuff.

Honestly I think you should get a ssd first and then possibly another 5770.
 
Are you looking for the biggest performance increase in....

Gaming?
Video rendering / encoding?
Opening and running multiple programs in windows?

Since your posting this in the video card folder, I'll assume gaming ;)
Adding a second video card will result in a MUCH bigger performance increase than adding more memory.
 
I assume he's asking about increase in gaming performance since obviously you don't need more than 4GB for games anyway. So yeh, another vote for a 5770.
 
Updated first post with more information, it is gaming. And 1680x1050 now, possible 1920x1080 next spring.
 
Then how about selling that 5770 to get a GTX 460 and get another later when upgrade to 1080p.
 
Honestly you'd probably get a nice fps boost in most games simply by overclocking your processor. Check out the article here on [H] from a couple years back on real world CPU scaling. The sweet spot for making sure you're not bottlenecked at the CPU is somewhere between 3.4-3.6ghz typically.

SSD's are not at a price range I'm comfortable with... no way I'm paying $2/GB.

It's overclocked to 3.6. Sorry I didn't include that.
 
Definitely get another 5770 if you're going to be upgrading to a 1080p panel in the future. Heck I would just pocket that $100 for now and then when you get your new monitor sell the 5770 and upgrade to say a 5850 whenever they go for <$200 used. It shouldn't be too far out. Maybe in just a month or two even, if the 5850 finally drops down to the MSRP of $259, as we all seem to think is a very likely scenario.
 
definitly get the second 5770, wait a while then add more ram if you still think you need it but the second 5770 would be an instant boost
