Is it possible to get bigadv units on Windows with the new v7 client? I had to switch over one of my Linux boxes to Windows and I've added the follow flags: client-type bigadv and max-packet-size big and still only see regular smp units. Is there a flag I'm missing?

You edited the SMP slot right? (add) Not the Expert Option.

It's normal for a new install to pick up a few SMP's, most mine did.

But within a day, it should go Big.

Edit - DOH!! Yeah, no Windows. Sorry.

No, you can't run bigadv in Windoze.
The assignment servers only issue them to linux boxen.

Just to add, putting options in the expert tab works also. This just makes it a global option, for all slots, which is fine if you only have one slot (or if you want the option to apply to all slots, such as pause-on-start or next-unit-percentage).

And to head off the next question, I know some people had success with bigadv using dual 1366s in a VM and the linuxforge image, but I was unable to get acceptable performance on a 2P 2011. I tried way too many combinations of VM settings/linux installs, and while VBox would generate a 32 core VM (and less, I tried everything down to 16), the VM never used more than 75% of the cores assigned to it. Best case scenario I was getting double the tpf in the VM compared to native linux.

Assuming you're stuck in Windows, and are still willing to fold smp, I'd experiment with two smp clients, I found that several of the smp units did not scale well to high core counts in windows (i.e. 32 was only marginally faster than smp16).

There is performance penalty as well running CPU folding on windows.
