For those guys cranking out the -bigadv, a couple questions

1: CPU
2: O/C to ?.?GHZ
3: What is your TPF time. This is the time to complete 1%

Want to see what it takes in overclocking/CPU to get to a certain point in bonus production.
Maybe make a small referance guide to go with FrEaKy's.

I think I've got my i7 stable. I kept crashing -bigadv so I went over to normal SMP. When I switch back I'll post times.
 
1. Core i7 920
2. 3.2GHz (Need to work on pushing it higher. Maybe this weekend sometime)
3. 41 minutes, 12 seconds.

3. 34 minutes, 26 seconds
 
Time result:

For the first one done, it was about 33:35 at the start and slowed to about 38:00 or so by the finish.

The second one, my computer locked up at about 85 % complete: total disgust.

The third one, current is running 35:04 per %.

I don't know what series the work units were or are, or if there is any difference in the size that might effect the times.

I'm about to turn in my 2nd -bigadv WU in a few hours. Here's my specs:

i7 920 C0
3.8 GHz (190 BLCK, x20 multi, 1.275v vCore). 6GBs RAM w/ 5 GBs allocated to VM
TFP ~35:00 depending on what I'm doing on the PC too.

would be faster if I shut down the folding on my videocards
 
From what I can tell, with my i7 920 at 4.1Ghz (195*21), I get under 30 minute TPFs, though the Linux VM has issues with not keeping the time synced. I just got my overclock to where I want it (and stable), so I started on a new passkey and am cranking out the 1920 pointers at 2:36-7ish TPF. I tried running native Linux, but not being able to use the 21x multi was a setback--the advantages in time were offset by not being able to overclock as much.

I pumped the Voltage to 1.3875, but in cpu-z it shows 1.312 under load.... crazy vdrop or something.

Anyways, we will see if that fixes it, started a new WU so I'm 2% in. The test will be to see if it is running in the morn.

Edit: just hit 3%, now showing 38:52 TPF on i7 running -smp 7 @ 3.485

yea i would make sure you turn off any turbo or power saving features just so settings dont fluctuate.

VMware will only run on 8 cores max
Running a second instance make both VMs have a 58min TPF so they dont complete in time.

Hyperthreading isnt really twice the amount of cpu power that its touted to be.

Im going to install a 2008 hyper-v and try all 16.
Since this is my daily driver i cant run native linux on this box.

CentOS 5.4. kernel 2.6.18
43 mins per frame.

2x E5365 @3.41 Ghz. 27.28 Ghz total.
8 core VM Player with CentOS 5.4. kernel 2.6.18 inside.
32 mins per frame.

I'm shocked that there's that much of a difference between your X5355s and my E5540s. You have a 1GHz(total) lead on my chips, but they're ~50% higher TFP and they're 120w vs 80w.

The new architecture is pretty good i guess.
 
I'm kinda shocked that my single i7 is inbetween the two rigs tiger posted with 4 real and 4 virt cores with a tpf of 38 min
 
It's extremely shocking if you look at the cost difference. Those Xeon chips are so expensive, and the server motherboards, and the server ram....
 
Dont forget the E-peen factor, I've got a tray of opty's here that makes chicks want me more than tiger woods!

I'm going to tell my gf that I upgraded from a 3.5" hard rive to a 2.5" flash drive and see what the response is.
