Well, I'm about to buy my first non-OEM CPU HSF ever, and I'm down to two choices:
Thermaltake Big Typhoon
Zalman CNPS7000 Copper
The main thing I'm going for here is SILENCE....I don't want to hear my computer in my room. (I know...picky, picky.) I may OC in the future, so let me know which one cools better too.
What would you guys suggest? I've heard that the Typhoon is quieter and cooler, but I need some more opinoins about this.
This is for a AMD 3800+ X2 in an Antec Sonata II case.
Thanks in advance!

im gonna say the big typhoon i had the 7000 from zalman and loved it but i now have the 9500led so i wont tell any one to go with an older heatsink

I'd go with the Zalman. But, normally, Big Typhoon.

The zalman is a great heatsink, though if I did it again I would do the big typhoon. The zalman is damn expensive. Well actually I think zzf has it for $50 right now....so actually get the zalman if you can find it cheap. I would not pay more than $50 for the zalman though because I know the big typhoon gets on sale at about $42 or so. The zalman is not very quite at all on full speed. I have my fan set at 1815 and it is the sweet spot for me.

I'd probably go the the Typhoon, especially since you can put a Yate Loon on if you're really after silence and never know it's there.

Zalman if you got cash and give a shit about noise

BT with a big ass 120 if you dont give a shit

also, get the 9500

Get the Big Typhoon but only if it will fit because its one huge CPU fan.

I am going to get the Big Typhoon but it may hit may ram but I am not sure.

(Not mine,but the same motherboard)

See how it almost goes over the third ram slot, well I have that Corsair ram with the programable LED's and it may hit the heatpipes coming out of the side of the Big typhoon.

I personally like the BT, but then I have one myself :p. There is a very large concern with it though (besides size issues with mobo layout) is clearance. If there isn't enough room between the BT and the side of the case, it will NOT perform to the best of it's abilities. I already know that 1" is not enough (did a fair number of tests). If you don't have the clearance and don't want to mod your case, a Scythe Ninja, Tuniq Tower, or Zalman 9500 would do a much better job.

my 2 cents <shrugs>

I posted the same question and the recommendations were for the Big Typhoon.
It's also the same for pretty much any posts and reviews I have read.

But if you can afford it then go for the Zalman 9500. It's very good based on the 3 or 4 reviews I have read about it.
One of them compared the BT with it and the 9500 was better.
It is pretty quiet too as long as you keep it at a medium or low speed but when it's on full throttle it gets relatively noisy.

welll how loud is the Big Typhoon (leaning towards that one) is it quieter than the zalman?

as metioned before typhoon is big. I have one, has my AMD 3700+ at 2500mhz running idle at 35c and full load at 40c.

I'm happy with it except if I upgrade my memory I will have to remove the typhoon to do it.

Dude, the Zalman 9500 might not fit in that case either.

Anyone have experience with the two? The 9500 is quite tall.
yes the 9500 will, the 9500 isnt that all at all, it will fit in any normal atx case....heatsinks like the scythe ninja and sonic tower are tall (about 15cm tall) and can even fit in that case, my hyper 6+ certainly did still has about an inch of clearance from the side panel (hyper + is 15cm tall)

Another vote for the BT, I got it for OCing, but its nice and quite as well. Lowered my temps about 9C from the stock fan. :D

Well I myself just orderd the big Typhoon for $85AUD and Arctic Silver 5 12g for $25AUD just about 15mins ago, just got to wait for them to get sent down to the store to pay and take home and install :D.

I am pretty sure the Corsair ram with the programable LED's is going to hit it and I may just have to take off the LED on the first ram, but I still have hope because it looks like it can fit because the BT looks like its higher than the ram. me hope :(.

I will post a pic if the BT can fit with my ram.

*Edit*

Well I am getting the Blue Orb II instead now because its cheaper and runs better and it will fit my theme since the top part of the inside of my case is blue so yeah, I am happy with it...for now.
