ive heard a lot of horror stories about installing a bt typhoon. i ordered one, and this is going to be my first aftermarket HS install. ive got:

MSI K8n neo-4
antec p150

what tools do i need to install this bad boy?

A long thin screwdriver if you want to use the provided screws and hardware.
If you can install it before installing the mobo, it will be easier.

If you have to mount it after the mobo is installed (if mobo screws would become inaccessible), I highly recommend that you first run screws from the bottom up of the mobo and then use a thumb screw setup that you can tighten down by hand similar to this:

makes the world a better place. otherwise, installing the BT is a real PITA.

Ya, if you use the instructed method, a long screwdriver would help. Also, I found that actually using a flat-head screwdriver instead makes things a lot easier.

can i screw them on hard enough with my hand though? i thought they had to be really tight?

pull the motherbioard and follow the included insurtatctions, use artic silver 5 between the cpu and cooler.

nopt hard tio do, make it tight but dont snap the screw!

You actually don't need to pull the motherboard. I managed to do an in-case install in a midtower. I tightened it as much as possible, I think as tight as I would have been able to with it out of case. My advice: use a flathead screwdriver. Makes things much easier compared to a phillips. IMO, if you can manage an in-case install, do it. It's not worth the hassle of taking out and reinstalling your mobo.

will i have to remove the mobo to install my zalman 9500? (never done this before)

is there any risk of doing it this way?

you can hand screw them good and tight. with a screwdriver you actually have a risk of cracking or warping the heatspreader on the CPU.

so its definitely worth intsalling in the case and not removing the mobo?

i have the little screw drivers.

from what ive gathered its a royal PITA to install in the case. Im just going to remove my mobo, its not a big deal.

As I said, I did it, and it really wasn't that bad at all. Then again, I have some pretty small hands <shrugs> For my experience, it was much easier to install in case rather than having to deal with taking out the mobo.
